I just booked the 5 night California Coast cruise on the Disney Wonder for my daughter's college graduation trip. I was wondering of there are any other Dissers going on this cruise. Also I would appreciate reviews from others who have done this cruise. We definitely want to go to the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco. We are HUGE Disney history buffs and can probably spend the whole day there! The excursion from the trip only allows 4 hours, so I'm hesitant to do it because we may want to take longer than that. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Is this the re-po cruise to Vancouver?
We did that cruise in May 2013, it was wonderful. Ours was a 7 night, with an overnight stay in San Francisco.
In San Francisco, we booked a tour on our own to Muir Woods, it was great. In the evening we left the ship walked the city and had dinner off the ship.
The second day, we just walked the city again, went to a few landmarks we had not seen on our visit in 2011.
I would have liked to do the Walt Disney Museum, but we didn't get there, maybe next time.
Our other stop was Victoria, amazing day at Butchart Gardens.
I do remember it being chilly on the cruise and I had to purchase crocs and sweatpants onboard, because I packed all open toe shoes and sundresses and capris. So pack a jacket for sure!

Have fun!

Yes, this is a re-po cruise. It will depart from San Diego, have one day at sea, one day in San Francisco, then 2 days at sea before debarking in Vancouver. I had thought about getting a hop-on hop-off tour with the hope that one of the stops is close to the Presidio and Walt Disney Family museum. Is the Fisherman's Wharf within walking distance from the ship?

We are on this same sailing. There's a bunch of people on the fish extender group (many of who aren't doing the FE). I think the board rules prohibit me from saying where it is (and hopefully I haven't gone to far with this post). But it's in the "usual" place.

We're actually from the SF area, so we know it pretty well. Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 are both a very short walk from the cruise pier. You can also take a taxi or Uber/Lyft to get up to the Presidio. You can also take the bus to get there. If you go to 511.org you can use the trip planner to figure out the best way there. Just put your starting destination as Pier 27.

The hop on, hop off bus doesn't stop all that close to the Presidio (stops outside the perimeter of the place). One of the routes does drive by it (through the Presidio), but no stops there. Fisherman's Wharf is definitely within walking distance.

Have you checked out your Cruise Meet thread? https://www.disboards.com/threads/disney-wonder-5-17-17-san-diego-to-vancouver.3503149/

Great info....thanks!!

Hi... we went on this cruise last year. Nice cruise just too short. We had never been
to San Francisco before and the weather threw me a curve. It was cold but the wind
chill was something else. We had a day and night filled with things to do but by night
cancelled because we were frozen. (SoCal wimps i guess).

However during the day took a city tour that was GREAT. Did Alcatraz which
was better than i thought it would be. Spent time at Fishermans Wharf which
WAS walking distance and a lot of fun. (Try the clam chowder).

Almost booked it again this year but decided on the 7 night leaving from San
Diego instead. Have fun...San Francisco is gorgeous.

We just booked this cruise. I have been looking at it for awhile now and have decided to take the plunge.

I can tell you that if you love Disney history, 4 hours is definitely not enough time to thoroughly explore even half of the Walt Disney Family museum.

We have just booked this cruise for 2018. I will be following for comments and insights as we plan for that trip!
We are going to be on the 2018 cruise as well! Looking for San Francisco ideas since our time in San Fran is much shorter than the cruise this year due to the fact our cruise is also going to Victoria.

That is good to know!! I glad you affirmed my concerns. We will probably that an Uber there so we can enjoy the entire museum at our leisure and not feel rushed to get it all in within a 4 hour time span.

Can anyone weigh in on which side of ship to book? Interested in knowing if you could see the coast on the way up or was the ship too far out? We are doing the 3 night before and would love to stay in same room but there is nothing on the "coast" side to allow for that. Thanks for your help!

We did the opposite cruise, (Vancouver to San Diego), in 2015. We were definitely to far away to see anything on the coast. We could tell where land was but was not able to see any details, I was a little bummed, was hoping to see something.

Thanks for letting me know! Did you find a preference for which side to be on? Wondering if the afternoon sun then vs morning was a factor? Did you enjoy the cruise?

No, you are too far from the coast to see any land. The seas are rough by the Columbia river, so the ships keep their distance.

In Vancouver.... the Wonder has a better view on the port side. The starboard side faces an elevated walkway that peers into your cabin.

It's all really personal preference, for which side of the ship you want to be on. The main factor would be working out which way the ship is going to dock, and then if you want view of the port or not.

There is currently a cruise meet thread for this cruise on the Meets Board. You can find fellow cruisers there.

I will keep this thread open however for you to get answers to your questions.

Could someone post the daily activity sheets for this cruise? We booked the same cruise for 2018.

Thanks,
