I'm going to tell myself that all "newbies" ask this same dumb question!! I'm going to tell myself that anyway! :rolleyes1

As soon as my contract closes, I would like to make my first reservation starting the night of April 21, 2008. So this would make the 11 month advanced reservation the morning of May 22nd for me to call? (I will miss this unfortunately). Would the 7 month reservation date to call be the morning of September 22nd?

I'm guessing I will close sometime in late June or early July. So my best bet is to call as soon as I am in the system and try to get into my home resort (BCV....what are my chances??) before the 7 month window opens for others? And if I can't , call at the 7 month point for another resort. Is this right?

Thanks for the help.

Normally you would call 11 months before the checkout date, unless you are planning on calling day by day. In a day by day situation, you would call May 22 and every open MS day thereafter until your reservation is complete. Same would go for the 7 month window.

Your strategy is correct, you can check on your home resort when you are closed and in the Disney system. If it is before 7 months, you can only reserve at your home resort. Then, at the 7 month mark you can call and try to reserve at any DVC resort.

I'd say your chances of an April reservation might be pretty good...but then again I'm not sure when Easter is next year or the spring break crush.

The good news is that for future years you'll be able to call at the 11 month window and have an excellent chance of securing BCV for your reservation! :)

I think you have a better handle on the process than you think you do. Granny did an excellent job of discribing it.

Granny, thanks so much. Now I just have to wait out the dreaded ROFR......:woohoo: :woohoo:

As an additional note:

Once you become a DVC member. You log onto DVC website and go to MyDVC - that is your account area on the site -- the top part shows the 11 and 7 month window of dates you can book.

OR...you could go to www.caskbill.com and download Bill's outstanding DVC Planner software. It will give you points for all resorts, banking deadlines, 11 and 7-month window dates (all adjusted for days when MS is closed), and about a million other useful things.

It's FREE for personal use, and it's an essential tool for any DVC owner, IMHO.
