Cafe Orleans or Blue Bayou?

The food is cajun inspired at both but one is much more expensive (at BB I paid more for lunch than I did at carthay Circle which is a finer dining experience) while also providing a very unique dining experience. Cafe orleans can still be fun if you sit outside and people watch but it certainly no comparison in terms of uniqueness as eating inside of a classic and favorite attraction and watching the boats go by). Also the food at BB includes more fine dining option like the steak and lobster.

I like Cafe Orleans for lunch or dinner, but I headed to BB for a special occasion dinner for my Birthday. The kids liked the food and they had fun eating in pirates of the caribbean. They were amazed with their glow cubes and played with them through the whole meal (even taking them out of the cups and figuring out how to turn them on and off and change the colors) and at waving to the boats as they passed by. However for the 6 and 9 year olds it was a long meal-a long time to sit there- and after about an hour they started getting squirly. This is not a fast meal. For a regular meal Cafe Orleans might be best.

Well there's really no contest Blue Bayou is the better of the two restaurants. That being said I go to Café Orleans more because it doesn't cost 50+ a person at Café Orleans haha!

We much prefer the food at Café Orleans. We really enjoy it there. To us, Blue Bayou is very overpriced for serving mediocore food. We have never had what I would say was really good food there. The atmosphere is great though. The last time we ate there, it was only because of the Fantasmic dining package- otherwise we would have skipped it. We don't skip Café Orleans!

It's a tough comparison, the dining experiences are different, as are the menus for the most part.

I like both, but for different meals. I usually eat lunch at CO, and do one of the dining package meals at BB.

But if you're picking one just for the Monte Cristo, I'd get it at CO. The one at BB comes with a cup of gumbo or salad, but they charge $8 more and the sandwich alone is pretty filling for most people. A lot of folks, myself included, share it with someone.

The sandwich alone was more than I could eat in several meals-that is a huge sandwich

The food is better at CO, as are the prices. The food is *fancier* at BB. The ambiance is a matter of taste. Some people love the dark, slightly cool BB, but I prefer the brighter feel of CO. BB feels like it should be quiet but it isn't. Kids are loud, the tables are close and there's always some dope on PoC hollering for you to throw him some bread.

My girls don´t really care for POC, I know I know.... anyway, overlooking the ride is not something I would pay for in this instance.

Thank you veyr much for your opinions!

What's the Monte Cristo like? Never heard of it

It's basically a ham and cheese sandwich on French toast type bread sprinkled with powdered sugar with several different kinds of jam-type dips. This is how it's served at BB. Yes, it's fried. :)

The food at Cafe Orleans is usually as good or better than BB, and a far better value for the dollar.

We gave up on BB after awhile. But, because of the ambiance, I do recommend it to those who are going for a "once in a lifetime" trip or looking for somewhere special to dine in DL. I prefer to recommend people book a late afternoon dessert at BB to see it. Unlike Carthay Circle, Steakhouse 55 or Napa Rose, I just don't think BB lives up to the premium price.

I like both, but end up eating at Cafe Orleans far more often than Blue Bayou, mainly because the pomme frites and French onion soup at Cafe Orleans are so delicious that I have to eat them every trip. It's cheaper, too.

I love the food at Cafe Orleans. It's ridiculously rich, so you won't be eating for a while.

I haven't been to Blue Bayou since I went as a kid (over 20 years ago), and for various reasons, it didn't work out the last few years. This upcoming trip next month though, we've made a reservation which we swear up and down we won't cancel. My 5 year old is always looking out from the boats and asking about the restaurant, so we're booking it as a last night treat.

I am dying to try the pomme frites at CO. I must be the only person on the planet that thinks the Monte Cristo looks terrible. :scared:

The ambiance at BB can't be beat if you like POTC.

I had the cheese version and I can confirm that it is terrible. I love grilled cheese sandwiches and I never got over what a fail it was. The battered deep fried bread is more like a donut than bread. It was basically a donut stuffed with brie and swiss cheese. I just don't see how that would appeal to anyone. And they give some sweet sauce and powdered sugar - it was nothing like a sandwich.

I want the monte cristo! I wonder if they could make it using gf bread....I wish...
