I am trying to set up the internet service for the new house we move into next week. And I am so confused!

We are looking into Cox Communications. We've never had them before. It says I can purchase a cable modem from them for $79.99 or I can provide one myself from their list of "approved modems." Some of the brands on their list are Arris, Cisco, Linksys, Motorolla, Scientific Atlanta. Any suggestions on these brands? (Cost is in consideration here.)

Does anybody know that has Cox know if this is wireless internet? I can't seem to find it anywhere on the site. I may just be missing it or misreading something.

If it is not wireless, do we buy a wireless cable modem to connect to it?

Help! :) Thanks!

A cable internet connection is, by definition attached to a cable. You can purchase a combination cable modem and wireless router for $100-$150, or you can buy them as seperate components for about $40-100 each.

Haha, I guess that was a pretty obvious question! :) Obviously, I am not very familiar with this.

Thank you for the response though. That helped. :thumbsup2

I have a Motorolla cable modem and a Linksys wireless router. I bought them both at Best Buy in a package that included having their Geek Squad come out an connect it. I tried to do it myself, but couldn't. Was glad to have them come out.

I've had Cox internet for about 9 years now. I love their service. I started with their modem and when it gave out, I got a new Linksys from WalMart for around $69, then you call Cox and they talk you through the set up. They have to ping your computer or some kind of computer lingo like that!:lmao:
It was easy. I aslo have a separate wireless router for the laptop and Play station 3.
