We need to purchase a new tent. I have been reading reviews for a week. I can't decide between a cabin or dome. We have a family of 6. I think we will buy two and the teenage boys will have one to themselves. Me, DH and DS10, DS4 will occupy the other. I don't want to spend a ton but we do like to camp and will use atleast 3x's a year. The old one is duct taped passed using. Is was a great tent for about 8 years.

I've owned both.
Cabin-more roomy due to straight up and down walls. Eureka makes some really good ones but pricey. They make several multiroom with a screen room in the front, recommend spending a little more and getting the roll down windows where the screens are to keep rain out.
Dome-More wind resistant, easier to setup but tend to run small for the most part. Had a really good Coleman Sundome I've used for years, still going.

Cabin. we had one for over 10 years and it was great. then for cub scout camping we needed a bigger one since we also were the camp kitchen and at night I stored the non food items with us inside. Due to DH's height I needed tall so i found a great Y shaped Dome tent on EBAY. I love the tent HATE the set up the poles are hugely long and such a pain to deal with. Never again if I go back to tent canping ( really don't like not having my bathroom) I will be getting another cabin.

Shop the eureka copper canyon we got ours from camp mor for 250 shipped. An incrediable tent easy up tons of room inside if you buy two I would sleep in one way enough room for 6 and use the other for a living room and kitchen

We had a cabinn tent when my brother and I were growing up. DH and I bought a 3-room dome connection tent a year or two after we were married. It's lasted about 7 years (lots of camping in ky & 2 trips to WDW), and we plan on using it this fall and next March when we head back to the fort.

I really like our tent and refuse to buy a new one since there isn't anything wrong with the one that we've got, but if I had it to do over again, I think that I'd go with a cabin. Just seems like there is more room (even thought the main dome on ours is decent size), although that could just be because I was much younger (and smaller) last time I was in a cabin tent. :)

Thanks for the help. I think I am going with the cabin. Can't wait to use it in Nov.:cool1: at FW.

I picked a dome with wings from costco for around $100. It also has a large 12 x 8 screened front area. It does require two people, but the space is outstanding. In fact we went camping a few years back and the couple who met up with us, got lost, it was pouring rain. They just crashed with us in our tent. 4 A, 3K 1 portacrib.

Suggestions, make sure you have one with a good rain fly that comes over the edges.

Also check out Sierra Trading post, they sell last seasons stuff pennies on the $.

We love our cabin tent! Its tall enough for us to stand up and move around in. Plus it has "closets", so we can keep our suitcases and dry towels in. Ours also has a screened front porch.
Its a Northwest Territory Family Cabin 15ftx16ft...
Its not too bad for set up. A few times it took about an hour, and one time it took 3 hours! But this last time was only 30 minutes.

It rained for 12 hours on one of our last trips, and it was windy too. The tent held up very well!
