Hope this is the right thread for this....Can anyone tell me how much I should expect to pay for a round trip cab ride from POR to the closest grocery store and back? And will they wait while I shop quickly? Thanks so much in advance!

There's a fare finder in the 'Popular Transportation Links' sticky - but you'd have to know where the nearest store is, and the distance.

Likely it'll be FAR more cost-effective to use one of the grocery delivery services: WeGoShop.com, GardenGrocer.com, Goodings.com, or, if you're not getting any perishables, netgrocer.com.

I have never paid more than $15 plus tip for a cab anywhere in WDW proper so esp if you go to goodings it shouldn't be more than that each way plus the meter time while you shop. (That is if they will wait). You could also take the boat or bus from POR to DTD and then walk to goodings, shop and then call a cab for the ride home.

Have you considered a grocery delivery service? They will shop for you and deliver to the resort. I have used wegoshop twice and they were excellent, got my list at great prices and delivered to bell services who stored everything and kept the perishables (esp the beer!) cold.

There are a few other deliverys services in addition to wegoshop that get great reviews here on the disboards.

We used gardengrocer.com
I would consider that instead of taking time out of your precious vacation time. If you need alcoholic beverages just add it in the comment section. They have a good reputation. Our groceries were waiting for us when we arrived. We were missing some bagels...I just called and they took care of getting it to us. You wont have to wait for groceries- they will deliver to bell services if you are not there.

Thanks so much for the quick replies everyone! I had no idea you could walk to goodings from DTD. Thanks again!

Yeah, it's about a mile. If you take the boat - walk up past Rainforest Cafe; pass the Disney bus stop; cross the parking lot; cross the street CAREFULLY to Hotel Plaza Boulevard (Grosvenor will be on the left corner, the Hilton will be on the right corner); walk up the street between them; cross the next road (535) even MORE carefully. Goodings is in the shopping plaza across the street.

eta: Or, compromise. Save money AND energy. Take the boat to Downtown Disney, head out to the parking lot, take a cab the mile or so (more expensive than walking, but a lot less hazardous); let the cab go; shop; if there are no cabs there, go back in the store and ask Customer Service for help.

We've done this walk from the DTD bus stop and it is quite enjoyable, we go early evening on the first day, it gets our legs in the walking mode for the week. Others say Goodings prices are high, we didn't feel that way. We like to pick out what we want and see the stuff so we don't do delivery service and the fee for delivery is more than the higher prices of Goodings.

A better tip to save some cash and back ache, bus to DTD, walk to Goodings, you're arms are empty then and after you shop, depending on the amount of groceries you buy, get a cab back to the DTD bus stop or your resort, cabs have a min. like 2.00 just for sitting in them then the meter starts.
