How much does a cab cost to go from DTD to walmart? Going on grocery run and wanting to budget. I know there are closer places and everything but with staying 11 days and trying to keep suitcase numbers down I prefer walmart.

It's about 5 miles. don't know what the taxi rates are but it seems to me around$20 to $25 round trip, plus tip, plus waiting charges.

You might find it worth it to simply have Wegoshop or gardenGrocer deliver for you.

Example Metered Rates

•$2.20 for initial 1/4 mile
•$0.55 for additional 1/4 mile
•$24.75 for each hour waiting time ($0.55 every 80 seconds)

or you could package delivery some of your stuff.

then you would only need milk, eggs, etc

You might consider a 1 day car rental. You could shop at a couple of stores and eat off site.

I agree. I'd look at a one day or even half day car rental so you can shop at your leisure and if you don't find what you want/need at Walmart you can go to another location. :thumbsup2

Im sure I can ind everything I will need at walmart. Nothing too exciting. Arden grocer didn't have everything I needed. We land at 3 and are just taking the evening to unpack and settle in. Wished Walmart was closer but still think it's the best option. We have a friend there who if needed can run us elsewhere some other time. Was hoping be could take us but he has to work that evening. Just wanted to make sure I knew how much to budget. Also didnt want ripped off. On honeymoon we took a cab the couple days we stayed off property and the cab driver circled around to make our 5 mile trip a 10 mile trip. ;)

We went to wal-mart in 2009 and it was crazy. I felt like i was in a war zone. In 2010 we went to Super Target instead and it was deserted. Much easier to shop but a little farther away. Worth it in my opinion.

Check out wegoshop.com. They will shop at the store of your choice and deliver it to your accommodations. The delivery fee would be less than a cab and all of your time is saved.

Hope that helps.

I have been to that Walmart. It is reported to be the busiest Walmart in the US...and I believe it. The queues at Disney were nothing compared to the madhouse at the Walmart check-out.

I pay a little more and go to Publix.

We go to Target instead of Walmart now. Clean, empty, great selection. (and real close to AKV).

My friend and I got a rental car for $40 in August to do some grocery shopping. It was well worth it considering a cab ride to a grocery store was probably about $30 plus tip etc. That gave use the ability to hit a couple stores, and get everything we wanted for a reasonable price. I would check to see how much a cheap car is for a day before getting a cab.

You choice of course. Personally I wouldn't do a cab or even hassle with a single day car rental UNLESS I had something else planned as well and would ship as much as I could and use a delivery service for the rest given your post. However, what I'd likely to is get a car rental for the entire time from the airport OR for a full week from one of the local spots. From DD, all of the major brands should have pickups nearby. I know National, Budget, Dollar and Avis have outlets in one or the other of the Disney Village Hotels. I think National is at the Palace, Avis at the Hilton, Dollar the the Wyndham (formerly Grovesnor) and Budget at the Doubletree Suites. Hertz is at the Hyatt Grand Cypress. Enterprise will pick you up. Cost for a smaller car likely around $200 for the week picked up locally or about the same for 11-12 days for the entire trip if picked up at or near the airport.

Got a full sized car at the airport the Tuesday before Labor Day through Alamo with my insider membership for 10 days and total cost was $165. We used the Walmart on 192 just prior to hurricane Jeanne a couple of years ago and it was packed. There was no regular parking spaces in the lot just wherever you could park. It was one of the best shopping experiences we ever had. They had every register open and there was no more than one or two people in any line when we checked out. I have also used the one down 535 and had no issues with crowds or difficulty checking out. I think it may depend on what time of day you go. I would rent a car for at least one day to do your shopping and depending on what you get for a charge maybe for the whole trip. You did say there were things you wanted that Garden Grocer did not have - I believe I have read where there is a section to add things like beer and wine and liquor so I imagine there are other things you could add if need be. Good luck and have a great trip.

I vote for car and Publix over by the outlet mall only a short ride...hit outlet, food shop in nice clean store, and there I a new Longhorn steak house over there too...so meal, shop, food... usually do get for 3 days over a weekend stay too now... but have done the one day... go to Mousesavers or over to the Transportation board for car rental help and codes...

Add me to the one day rental too. We tend to do several grocery runs during our 10-14 day stays (so we rent a car the entire trip). Plus add a run to a liquor store for mixings for some pool drinks. We visit the Publix or Target on 192, but if we need to go to a liquor store, we bypass this Publix and go to the next one that has their own liquor store where the prices are good. If you want to go further, take the ramp towards Haines City and there is a huge Walmart there, that we visit too (they also have a liquor store and good prices). I find the most of the stores to be packed on Sundays (a big DVC checkin day). If you don't get their early enough, we find the shelves picked over.
