Since the crowds seem horribly bad at Disneyland on NYE, has anyone been to CA NYE? Now with WOC, I'm wondering if it will be more crowded. Has it ever closed due to capacity??

It's never closed due to capacity, I also don't think they've ever kept it open until midnight even on NYE?

Melbatoast - it might be worth it to post all of your New Year's at DLR questions directly in our "Disney at Christmas" super thread as well as separately in different threads, because we have quite a few people subscribed to that thread who have either already done NYE at DLR (some posted photos) or are planning to do it, and it might be useful for you and them in gaining/exchanging more insight and information. Those folks who are already on the Disney at Christmas thread might not see your new threads, so it can't hurt to post something there too, with all your New Year's-related questions.

It's not even open til midnight on NYE? I thought if we can't get into Disneyland, we could go over to CA. Well, maybe not!

DCA is open at midnight on NYE. I believe it closes at 1am (at least it did the last 2 years). Last year they shot off fireworks at DCA at midnight. They have had a countdown there as well at midnight in the past. (I'm not sure if there's been a countdown every year, but I know there has been one there a few times.)

We have only been to Disney on New Year's Eve once: 2007. That was the year of the winds and other weird weather, so the big fireworks show got canceled. I could be mis-remembering things, especially since we left the parks closer to 10 PM since the boys were younger and we were all just too tired, but...Disneyland was scheduled to stay open until 2 AM and DCA until midnight. There were also other NYE parties around the resort. We were going to go to a fun-sounding one at the Paradise Pier Hotel which was a buffet meal with characters and DJs and dancing and so on. I think the food was supposed to be served until 10 PM and the dancing and celebrating was scheduled through midnight. We ended up canceling the reservation though, but maybe we will get our chance someday.

The upside to having returned to our room early was that the park was practically deserted the next morning (Jan. 1) and we could walk on everything.
