Does the California Grill have a lounge? I thought I remembered seeing one. DH and I will be celebrating our anniversary and we are staying at the Contemporary and would like to have a drink after spending the day in the park. I thought I saw a lounge when we had our reception there, but I also think I read that they made some changes.

IIRC from March... There is a long bar just as you come off the elevators - first half is wrapped around a standard bar w/bartender setup, and the second goes around where the chefs are. (Your back would be to the dining tables on that half.)

There is also a lounge-y area of smooshy tables and couches with low tables, but you have to go to that same bar to get drinks. It's just to the right if you're facing the big Wall O' Windows. There's no real separation (maybe a little half-height wall or some such) between this area and the dining tables. It's not a different room like the one at the Yachtsman Steakhouse.

Just so you know - if you pop up to the Lounge on a MK "fireworks" night, it will probably be incredibly crowded with familys fresh from the park, with tired toddlers in tow waiting for a table - Not very romantic for an Anniversary I'm afraid.

That lounge area used to be very large--in fact, it occupied the entire "right hand" side of the CG. But they must have discovered that they had so many potential dinner customers that they could use that space as a dining area. So nowadays the lounge is a fairly small area in the "middle", with dining tables off to each side.
It's quite open, and as nasmith says, on fireworks nights it's swarming with folks just trying to find a place to sit down.

I recently went to the Cal Grill lounge. They have a bar and a conversation area. We settled into a sofa & table right next to the window. This was a little before 6pm. We had drinks then ask for the lounge menu, which ended up being the full menu. So we had CG dinner in the lounge. It was wonderful. The closer the time to the Mk fireworks the harder it is to get in though.

An alternative could be, I think it's called "Cosmic Ray" or "Cosmic Rim" on the 4th floor of the Contempory, near Chef Mickey's. It's usually quiet and you may beable to see fireworks. It's only been a month and half since I've been there and I can't remember which side it faces...sorry! But they have wonderful martini's!;)

It's called the Outer Rim. Here are some Pictures that I took of the lounge on our last trip. :)
