anybody speculate if they will putting a counterservice there in the near future? can we as members vote somewhere to tell them that one is needed?

Best thing you can do is share your comments with DVC.

Certainly the negative feedback is anticipated. They didn't just forget to add counter service--it was a calculated move. I wouldn't expect a quick reversal, but perhaps if the complaints pile-up over time...

I seem to remember some thoughts about this with regard to the DVC building at Wilderness Lodge, and yet Roaring Forks remains the CS option. My guess is that the same will be the case at AKL, for the duration.

Yes, but AKV is a much larger resort and there is already some indication that they are considering a CS in the Kidani building due to all the complaints and the fact that it is only partially finished at this point. A few posters indicated the capacity for a CS restaurant was already built-in to the design of the Kindani building based on conversations they have had with MS/CMs.

Let's hope these rumors are true.

Many folk are concerned because they want to take advantage of the dining plan. I'm concerned because I know my 11yo will want to run off to Jambo to grab some chicken fingers & I don't want that, nor do I want to have to pay Room service prices.

I'm sure Disney will do something here... the question is "What will they implement?" As I pointed out in the other thread, according to Disney there are under 500 rooms in Kidani. IF they put in a CS option, it would be the smallest (room count wise) resort to have it's own CS.

Best case - we get something like Artist's Palate in the new wing, probably not too far from the pool area.

Worst case - I fear they'll put subs in the fridge at the store and allow folk to use their dining credits for that, a milk/soda and a pudding. Yuck.

Yes, anything is better than nothing. I would even be happy with a simple hot breakfast setup like you get at your average Hampton Inn over the non-existent breakfast offerings they have now.

I'm not sure why there are two threads about this, but whatever... I'll ask here what I asked there: How much further is Mara from where they would put a CS at Kidani as compared to the distance between where they would put a CS at VWL and Roaring Forks? Are we talking about an extra 50 feet? or an extra half mile?

and there is already some indication that...
I suspect that well of 80% of all "indications" that we've ever had turned out to be nothing substantive.

Let's hope these rumors are true.
Of course, but let's also not get people's hopes up, or have anyone set their expectations that these "indications" mean anything significant. We want to help people enjoy their vacations, not set them up for disappointment.

Obviously nobody knows where a potential CS site at Kidani might be located, but for the sake of argument let's assume it is in a centralized location near the lobby. Since the 2 AKV lobbies are roughly 1/2 mile apart I think its reasonable to believe the distance between the 2 CS restaurants would be roughly equivalent to the lobby distances

Since its all hypothetical at this point why not throw out equally hypothetical statistics of 20% or 100%. These are rumors as I indicated.

They are already disappointed, that's the whole point of this thread. People want a CS at Kidani and the vast majority who have stayed there already have indicated that to a CM, MS ,etc. I'm simply relaying what some of the other threads have mentioned, nothing more.

Someone in the other thread said that it was only a 12-15 minute walk from Kidani to the Mara. That's about the same as from VWL to Roaring Forks.

Tempest in a teapot.

I think it was me that said 12-15 minutes depending on location. You can walk from the far end of VWL to the last room on the Inn side closest the water in maybe 6-7 minutes at a normal pace, I think it is potentially quite a bit further at AKV.

I don't think there's been any real information that suggests Disney is considering a CS location. I did point out two issues on the other thread. One that the most likely locations take away from other amenities and the other that there was not likely enough patronage support to justify both a CS and TS restaurant. So the real questions to me is are those interested in a CS ready to give up the TS to get it. I think Sanaa is a great restaurant choice and though this meat and potatoes guy will only eat there occasionally, I really hope it makes it. Comparing to the other TS on property, I think it's the best of the 3 overall in many ways but then we don't care for buffet's or AYCE as a rule.

That's one of the problems with measuring distance in minutes -- everyone walks at a different pace. Isn't there someone here who regularly sees questions like this and posts aerial photos? That's what we need to see.

Remember, though, the distance from "the last room" doesn't matter. All that matters is the distance from where the CS would be (in Kidani or VWL) to where the CS is now (Mara or Roaring Forks). The people in "the last room" are going to have to walk down to where any new CS is, anyway, so the extra walk is only from where the CS would be to where the CS is now.

There were posts from people who walked the path from one to the other and actually timed it. There were posts anywhere from 6 to 10 minutes just from one lobby to the other and one person who quoted 7 minutes on direction and 10 the other stating they took a more leisurely stroll on the return. I'm sure one can use a pedometer and/or GSP to get distances. Likely a better comparison would be BCV to B & C or BWV end of hall to ESPN. However, if we were talking BCV or BWV, we're talking more in line the distance to Sunshine Seasons.

Your point about the built in walking to get to point A is an appropriate one but likely only for those on the far side or near the lobby though I'd suggest once you get over a certain distance it doesn't matter how far or close it is for many. For those closest to Jambo there is a back way to get out from what I'm hearing that might not only avoid the extra walking but cut off a portion of what I've quoted. One thing for sure is we haven't seen the last of this topic, it should be fun.

that is a long walk when you are hungry, late at night, or when you are way too tired after a day at the park...and personally i dont like the food at MARA:confused3

I'd love to see those aerial shots. :)

Not liking the food at Mara is immaterial to this: Whatever CS they would put into Kidani (or VWL for that matter) is as likely to be worse than Mara (or Roaring Forks).

When we've stayed at Jambo, we usually get breakfast at Mara (except for the few days when we get the AMAZING breakfast buffet at Boma!). Until they offer CS at Kidani, we'll probably just walk over to Jambo, use Mara/Boma, and then take the buses from there to the parks.

I do hope they add a CS option at Kidani.

When we stayed at Kidani last week (checked out on Monday) that was the big complaint at the pool. The weather being in the mid 90s and for folks with young children, it would be a bit of a hike to Jambo.
My op WLV is much closer to Roaring Forks.
I would suggest to at least bring enough items for breakfast, so that you don't have to do that walk or bus to Jambo, first thing in the norning.

From my perspective, RF is much closer to VWL than Jambo/Mara is to Kidani. And we had an outstanding location close to the lobby. The pool does have salad and a club sandwich available as well as the ability to order private dining from Sanaa, but currently isnt taking the DDP. You can take the bus too...very quick to get TO Jambo (any park bus) but it's probably faster to walk back than to wait for the DTD bus to go back to Kidani.

I would like to see more options available at the pool, similar to Hurricane Hannah's at the BC.
