OK, maybe I'm getting old, but with the new search feature I just can't follow threads as I would like and I really don't want to subscribe to threads.

So after the NASCAR season is over, I will be leaving this site. Heck it's bad enough trying to find this weeks thread to make my NASCAR picks, forget about trying to find the season update thread. I do a search for NASCAR and get post from over a year ago as the first ones.

This site is just getting too darn big to scroll through 20 pages of new post.

So I say, "TTFN"

And here I thought I was the only one who had trouble using the search engine on this site.

When I search, I just put in by date, and it only takes a moment more to pull up most recent posts in that subject.
I haven't had a problem with it.

You're not alone. I used (emphasis on the past tense) the search feature all the time and found it to be quite good. I consider myself extremely computer literate and quite deadly with a search engine, but the new one is close to useless despite several attempts now to massage it this way and that.

Any mods paying attention?

I'm part of a thread over on the Budget board that has over 1870 posts on how to make extra $. Recently, we were trying to find some info IN THE THREAD. We knew I was the one who posted the info. I knew roughly when in June I posted the info. I knew that at another time, I had copied & pasted the same info again into the thread.

3 of us used every search method we could think of here on the DIS. The only way to find it was to keep paging back in chunks until we got to the approximate time frame, then start reading for it. :sad2: The "search THIS thread" feature doesn't even work anymore. It brings you to search the DIS...and then does not deliver.

We knew the posters name (me), exactly what it was called, knew what thread it was in, & when what WEEK it was written in June 2006. The search engine found NO RESULTS. :sad2: :sad2: I also couldn't go back in my own posts, because it was more then 500 posts ago.

Count me in.. I loathe the new search feature. I loved being able to search specific forums and threads! The other day I tried searching birthdays in WDW restaurants and what do I get but all the Happy Birthday posts from the Birthday thread! Oy!

Thanks for putting up a poll. Sorry that you're leaving :guilty: . Btw, there's also a "New Search" thread on the Technical Support Forum.

agnes!

I would like to choose more than one poll answer, please. :teeth:

The search words aren't coming up with the threads (and they are out there) and the details we had available are not there now. I really miss the old search function! :wizard:

I'm not leaving because of it, but I cannot find anything with the new search feature.

WOW! Maybe if more people vote, there will be a change.

If they could just bring back the search by user feature it would be much better.

http://www.disboards.com/searchbt.php?search=&order=1&user=Mister Incredible&scope=4&cat=1&frm=-1

Bookmark that, it'll show you all of YOUR posts, so you dont have to rummage through the rest of peoples posts. All you really have to do is this:

http://www.disboards.com/searchbt.php?search=&order=1&user=YOURNAME&scope=4&cat=1&frm=-1 and put that in your address bar, it'll show up all of your posts from most recent to least recent.

Oh and for those of you saying that the search by user feature is gone, I got to the above URL by going to Search -> Advanced Search -> Then click on "Advanced Search" text near the bottom of this page and voila, you have a search by user.

Hope this helps!

Threads like this crack me up...

Let's see you don't pay to use the site (I notice you aren't a sponsor) and I can only assume you want us to BEG you to stay.

Um... bye!

Ehh. It doesn't matter to me, I rarely use it.

You know what happens when you assume something! In this case it would just be an assu

Nice attitude..not to mention 72% of the people that voted agree with me.

It does take a certain amount of gall to start a thread like this.

This is all provided to you for free. Be grateful. Constructive criticism is OK, but I think starting a thread like this is quite disrespectful.

If you're looking for the Nascar thread that you have previously subscribed to just click on the User CP on the top bar. This will bring up all the current threads. I use that rather than the search feature. :confused3 Just a thought. :)
