BWV vs RIV for Hollywood Studio - Family summer trip

You could try setting up a wait list! We have had pretty good success with the wait list in all the room categories, though sometimes they fill 31 days before the trip! (if you are using banked or borrowed points they'll use those first, but make sure you are within your current banking window if the WL comes through and you have "extra" points)

If you are staying in a resort view, I have requested the end by the tennis courts for a much shorter walk to HS and the bus stop (AK, MK). But if you are using a stroller, you may just want to request "near elevator". We did not find the BW view rooms to be too noisy, and it was fun to sit out there while the kids were in bed and the grownups could still feel like we were a part of the action. We cheered the people playing the games on the boardwalk. :)
Where are the games at? We didnt see any

I think a standard view at BW if you can get it would work for you because you'll be so far down the hallway you'll be closer to HS for walking (walk down any stairs instead of taking the elevator and head to the waterway and turn left). And it would be closer to community hall.

The boardwalk games are still there - on the DVC side of the Boardwalk. Basketball, lobster toss, bottle toss, maybe another - I can't recall. They're right on the lake side of the boardwalk.
I completely missed this, they are on the boardwalk?? Sorry im not familiar

The games side of the Boardwalk are right in front of the DVC Boardwalk View rooms - they stretch from in front of the store to what used to be Big River. They get pretty popular in the evenings, especially after some of the street performers' shows end. I was in a 2nd floor Boardwalk view room in September right above the clothing store, so I looked right onto the Lobster toss game and basketball game - which was fun to watch. That's one thing, along with the music and crowd noises, that some people don't like about Boardwalk view rooms, as the Boardwalk stays fairly loud and active until a bit past 11pm...you'll hear basketballs hitting the hoops and lobsters being pounded into pots from the rooms, along with the crowd roars when someone wins. Doesn't bother me as I'm a late nighter, so even if I'm back at my room before 11pm, I'm usually sitting outside on the balcony with a drink, people watching.

I just got the boardwalk resort view 1 bedroom booked for the dates I wanted! Needed to get 1 bedroom at 7 month as no studio was fully available. I may book an extra night at the end of the trip at riviera studio to have a resort day before heading home.
You are going in the wrong order :)

I would cut the trip short and leave as is if you can’t end in a 1 bedroom.

It seems like a hassle to move on your last night to a smaller room to then have to pack up everything in the morning again to get to the airport.

Maybe you could grab a studio for a night before moving to the 1 bedroom?

Community hall
This has been mentioned several times already but imo it is THE best of all the DVC resorts.

Plenty of coloring and some paid crafts ($5 for painted Disney magnets is a cheap souvenir and your kids will enjoy making them)
There is a movie playing (I think they might have removed the comfy couch though), air hockey, pinball and Switch and Xbox games.
It’s also right in front of the quiet pool so when they are done they can jump in the pool.
