BWV room request for medical reason

I just had back surgery 2 weeks ago and leave for our April trip in 4 weeks. While I'm feeling on the road to recovery, I was a little concerned about our trip. I've gotten an OK from the doctor and know I will have to pass on lots of things, and am OK with that. I called and talked to MS about a room location and they put a medical request on my reservation for either a first floor room or room near an elevator. I have a studio/standard booked. Since I really don't know the layout, which would be the better choice if I have to choose when checking in? Normally I wouldn't care and would zip up and down the stairs, but that's not going to happen this trip. I will get further instructions from my doctor, but pretty much see alot of pool relaxing, eating, and lots of drinking on this trip. I don't plan to use a wheelchair, as I am mobile at the 2 week mark, and am hoping that I get an OK soon to start picking up the pace in my walking routine. Any suggestions would be appreciated. :yay: (I can't do that)

I'd rent an ECV from CARE to use at the parks and for getting back and forth to the room. That will elminate the worry about WHERE your room is.

I would go for "near the elevators". BW lobby is actually on the second floor. So you'll be taking the elevators fairly often anyway.

Hope your recovery goes well.

Best wishes -

Thanks, I was thinking elevators too. Glad I rode Everest during our February trip this year.

6 weeks after surgery you should be feeling good, take it easy, no rushing. I was back to work after my surgery in the eight week with no limits. Think I could have done it at the 6 week point but opped for the extra weeks off.

Go with close to elevators. Otherwise the walk to the elevators at BWV can be so far it's almost funny. Actually, it's not funny after a long day at the parks...

Yes timing is everything. It will be 6 weeks after surgery the day we arrive in WDW and we'll spend 2 weeks in WDW, so 8 week recovery. The trip was planned 7 months ago, but it was ironic that the surgery date ended up where it was. Actually, I rushed to get it in, because I couldn't have done another trip without the surgery. We went to WDW in Feb. for a week and I was miserable.

Relaxing, eating, and drinking sounds like a great trip to me! I'd ask for near elevators too. That way, you won't have too much walking down long hallways. I also second the ECV. You work hard all year. Why not take a break and ride around. Besides, you can win the race to the bakery each morning.

Have a great trip. :woohoo:

Just remember that even though they give priority to medical requests, they are not guaranteed.

I know this and actually we are the type that only make one request: "Non-smoking". But figured it couldn't hurt this time considering the situation. We are extremely flexible and could care less if our room is ready when we get there or ready at 5:00PM. We always opt to wait, if the room we are waiting for is a better choice. If we don't get our request, we just hope the room is non-smoking--allegeries.
