I am not a DVC member yet but am planning a vacation April 2-8 2006 and was wondering if anyone knows availability I will need 3 -Studio and 1 2BR
I will be Renting or purchasing points for the trip
Thanx

I'm sure there is still availabilty at both resorts to meet your needs. Howver, knowing what is available right now will not help you much. Availability changes frequently. DVC does not "hold" rooms for anyone.

If you are ready to commit, post your request on the Rent/Trade Forum. Someone will reply and you can negotiate terms. Once that's done, the DVC member will make the reservations for you. Until that's done, you can't be sure you have the rooms.

Keep in mind that most members consider renting a final / nonrefundable transaction, so be sure you understand the member's cancellation policy before you move forward. Most members will let you reschedule your trip if you have to cancel for some reason - subject to availability, the expiration date of the points they rent to you and the timing of your cancellation.

Good luck - your trip sounds like fun!

After reading the rules for the Rent / Trade I thought there was a 6 month limit before posting

I am assuming you are referring to this statement:

We do ask that existing reservations not be offered for rent until within six (6) months of the arrival date and we will limit the rental of existing reservations to one active post at any given time and a maximum of two existing reservations posted per year. Members desiring to have points transferred into their account are also welcome to post.

That "6 month" rule is for a very special case. It's meant to discourage DVC members from reserving popular times of the year and then looking for a renter. It does not apply to members who find a customer with specific dates in mind and then make the reservation.

For example, some members would reserve the week between Christmas and New Year's as soon as the 11 month window opened. They had no one in mind to rent the reservation, they just knew that becausethat time was so popular that someone would want it and they would probably get a very good price for it. While perfectly legal as far as DVC is concerned, that practice upset many members on this board. They considered it wrong to do that when so many members wanted to use their membership to stay during that time. So the DIS made the rule that you couldn't advertise a specific reservation on the Rent/Trade Board more than 6 months in advance, hoping that that would discourage the practice - or at least not make it easier for the member to do.

Now that said, if the member already had someone who wanted to rent that time, or a non-member asked about the that time 11 or 12 months in advance, no problem. The member negotiates terms and makes the reservation at the 11 month window.

So if you, as the renter, want to make arrangements a year ahead of time (wise if you want popular times), you should feel free to do so. It won't be a problem and no rules will be broken.

FWIW, since you aren't trying to go the week before Easter or the week after Easter, you shouldn't have a problem getting a reservation. I would recommend that you try to nail it down before the 7 month window opens, though - especially if you want BCV. It's one of the smaller DVC resorts and the pool complex makes it very popular. At 7 months prior to arrival, any DVC member can use his/her points to make a reservation there. Prior to that, reservations are limited to BCV owners.

Bottom Line - You can start right now. There isn't any 6th month rule that applies to you and your situation.

Best wishes -
