We had our first stay here May 27-30. The check-in was a nightmare. We had a 2bd BW view. We first arrived at 11:30 and didn't expect our room to be ready-good thing. At 4:00,we checked with the receptionist(who, incidentally was the person we spoke to when we arrived). She very snippily told us that BWI guests were given priority for check-in:scared1: . I knew this wasn't true and it was by this time 4:20,so,I went to another CM and told him that I was extremely unhappy. He checked and told me that one of our rooms had been available since noon. So,we went to that room and guess what-the other room was ready too.

If you want to sleep and not be awake at 2 and 3 am,I suggest not having BW view. 2 of the 4 nights, there were very loud people walking and cutting up. Only my daughter was able to sleep. I did inform the desk after the first night. Apparently, they did nothing about it.

Our dryer didn't dry and we had to get maintenance on 2 separate days. I ended up hanging clothes all over the place to dry.

While the resort is beautiful,I was disappointed overall with our stay. I wish that we had stayed here before my DH gave me the points. He could have saved bunches of money.

We're going back in Nov. in a 1bd standard. Hopefully,we'll have a better stay.

Sorry to read about you bad time. :sad1: We were there at the beginning of May. Our room was above the store right where the Boardwalk performers preform. :rockband: We would stand on our balcony and watch the crowds below. We expected a lot of people noise but we were surprised that everything quited down between 10 and 11 each night. Maybe we were just lucky? :yay:

Just curious but who is the "receptionist"?

Did they give you a phone number to call to check on the room when you checked in?

I'm not sure what the resort could do to control that. The BW has always been billed as a late-night entertainment district.

The receptionist is the CM who checks you into the resort.
Yes,they did give us a number to call.
The resort might try to insure their guests sleep at night. It sort of insures return guests. All that's required is someone to patrol and ask that patrons keep it down a bit.

My definition of 'receptionist' is someone who recieves calls and directs people where they need to be. I think you meant the check-in staff. Those folks take a lot of abuse from people checking in, and I have wittnesses some pretty awful behavior on the part of guests, so I always try to cut them some slack. I find if you approach them in a cheerful manner (even if you have a problem), you will get farther faster.

Actually, I dislike the BWV for much of the reasons you had problems. It's just too much "hotel like" for me.

Sorry your stay wasn't what you had hoped for. I have to ask though...what floor were you on? I've been pretty lucky so far and been put on the 5th floor. My last stay was in a two-bedroom above Big River Grill. I did have to listen to the darn basketball dinging until about 11 pm, but other than that, the noise wasn't bad. The only time the JR's revelers at 2:00 bothered me was the time I was normally up for my middle of the night potty break..this getting old is for the birds!! But, I don't think it would have woken me otherwise. But, again, I was on the top floor. Perhaps it's noisier lower down.

Sorry about your stay.

We just had a bad experience at BWV as well. Our involved poor CM checking us in, being charged for valet parking three of the nights, run down condition of the room, no hot water on multiple occasions and times, and a dirty looking pool area.

We really weren't impressed at all with BWV. Other than the location we won't be returning.

Instead of trying it again, I'd try another DVC Resort for your next trip. Give VWL a try or evn SSR. A quiet resort might be more to your liking. DVC gives us choices, you might just need to find yours.

It must be a regional or southern thing to call the check-in person a
receptionist. Old houses had a reception room where guests were received. We were very pleasant to her. She was the one who copped attitude. Whether she has a bad day or not, she is one of the first people a guest sees upon arrival. Her attitude should be pleasant. I was angry only after she was ugly to us.

We were on the 3rd floor where the Crest of the Wave sign is. Thanks for the info about the 5th floor. If I ever book a BW view again,I'll ask for that floor.

I'm sorry you experienced problems as well. I tried to change but our next reservation is a few days before Thanksgiving,so it was a no go. However,I will try for VWL next May. Thanks for the resorts suggestion.

I do agree BW view can be rather loud. We were close to the games and that bell kept going off, not to mention the boat horn. We even have video tapes from inside the room with door closed, TV on and you can still hear the bell from outside.

That said, I still really enjoyed the location. And sorry about your check-in, it's sort of a lousy way to start your holiday.

We are from the UK and are frequent visitors to Florida, we have been thinking (and thinking....) about buying into DVC for a long time but have yet to do so.
Have stayed at BWV, standard room last year. Love the location, having access to BCV and EPCOT, and especially ESPN Sports Bar.

I do agree that part of the appeal of the resort is the lively atmosphere on the Boardwalk itself, especially in the evening.

Did feel our room was not up to the standard we expected at DVC, a lot of the furniture looked in need of replacement.

Wow, very sorry to hear about the horrible experience you had. We were at the bw from 5/19 to 5/26. I had 3 bw view studios, one above the general store, one above big river and one in the middle of the two. We were all on the 2nd floor and by 11PM there was no noise at all. We had such a wonderful time, I now understand why people say it would be hard to stay anywhere else!!!

Same here. Top floor in December was great!

Of course, it was COLD out there so not a lot of people were making too much noise in the first place. In any case, I knew I had a boardwalk view and there could be noise so I wouldn't have complained about it and expected them to try to quiet down people on the Boardwalk!

I thought that because the rooms were on the Boardwalk, those who designed the buildings might call for extra insulation. This is what is done in many hotels that front on noisy areas- many of New Orleans' French Quarter hotels for example.

We stay in 2br BW view every time in 2005 we were second floor right above the Big River and had no prob with noise at all.

I agree with you about the locatrion being great AND the furniture needing replacing.

Oh yeah, ESPN is rumored to be closing that location. Just wanted to give you a heads up.
