I just got a call from Valerie Manager of MS. I originally had a Boardwalk view booked for trip July 6 through the 12. She said they are doing some maintenance and they need to move us to a garden or pool view. Same points?? I said garden view??? Who can tell me where this is? This will be our first trip to BWV and I was really looking forward to the boardwalk view. Kind of bummed....:sad1: :scared:

Here is a great graphic that Granny posted to show you the views:

I would only accept this if I were given something to compensate, e.g. a gift card, points returned, or something you would value. While I understand that it may be necessary, you are losing a booking that you already have. JMHO.

Me too...I think MS should do SOMETHING extra nice for you.

Oh now I'm nervous. We're going at the end of July and have a 2 bdrm. BW view booked. I was lucky enough for my waitlist to come through. I hope they don't call us too.

I hope they do something for you. Let us know.

I agree ... this stinks. You went from working at getting a prime location, now you're suppose to be happy you are just getting a room. The last time we had a garden view we could see the pool -- the swan and dolphin pool! We came out our room and turned the corner and had to pass the dumpster area every morning. Some folks might like this area, but we didn't, unless we wanted to go to jellyrolls every night. Maybe they'll put you in the area that faces the courtyard, where you can still see the boardwalk. I would make sure they know that you are not thrilled with the situation. There are threads on the resort boards where folks staying at A/S Movies are being moved to delux resorts because of overbooking and they want you to take a garden view??? Maybe they'll give you a bigger unit.

Uh oh. I got a voice mail late yesterday to call MS regarding our BW view reservation for July 5-8, I have to call back this morning. Now I know what it is.

Edit: Yup. Spoke to a supervisor at MS and "all" the boardwalk view rooms are going to be down - 4th of July weekend! Geez. She said that a lot of guests (it sounded like studios) had been moved to other resorts. I said I was not happy but with same number of points I did not feel I could make a federal case of it. (They really should restructure the point charts so that preferred view is less points than BW view.) All I could do was put in request for what view I wanted other than boardwalk. Grrr.

I wonder if the rumored room rehabs will be taking place in the BW view rooms at this time. If so you would think that they would have projected this and not booked people in those rooms in the first place.

This would totally hack me off. We were at BWV over NYE and I was on the phone at the 11 month window in order to get a Boardwalk View. If they had later called me and said they are moving us to a garden/pool view or another resort, it would be unacceptable at the same number of points. I shrug things off that go wrong with Disney (including them mistakenly cancel or geting wrong ADR’s) but if my confirmation says BW view, you either need to give me the view I was guaranteed or make it up to us some other way. And I am not talking leaving a plush for my daughter.

fwiw

They are doing an exterior rehab at BWV now. Painting, roofing, new awnings, etc. (Don't know if this includes interior rehab.) Scaffolding is up on the parts being worked on. The finished parts do look great.

From the above posts, it sounds like they will be doing the BW side of the resort in July.

What I can never understand is why they don't know these plans more in advance? If I recall something similar happened last year with AKV concierge rooms - suddenly out of commission after booking were in place.

The manager at MS told me she was really only calling me as a courtesy because it's the same number of points for the preferred view. Yeah right!

OP were you able to get a better deal rather than just rolling over as I did?

I felt like I had no choice. The only other option was to maybe get into AKL villas. We were at AKL Last summer and I really don't want to go back there for a while. I'm really bummed...

Same here... my kids would rather go somewhere other than AKV this year as well. It will still be a nice stay but first time I've stayed at BWV without the boardwalk view. :guilty:

For those affected at AKV by the absence of the animals, DVC charged SV rates. IMO, that's the appropriate compensation, SV rates for this situation.

Thanks for your insight. I just emailed MS with a civil request to be refunded the difference in points. The worst that can happen is they refuse. Only 18 points in my case, but on principle.

Well we decided if we can't have the Boardwalk view then the BWV will have to wait for another time and trip. We're heading back to our home the :worship: Wilderness Lodge. :yay:

That picture map is interesting. When we stayed at BWV, we got a 1 Bedroom Standard view - but from that map we were placed in a preferred view room apparently. We were along the canal, it was a great spot!

Others have reported the same. Apparently they used those rooms as SV during rehab and other times of rooms being out of service. We had some that paid preferred rates in those rooms when they heard that others paid SV. To my knowledge, they were all told they were preferred and no one gone any points back.

There is no difference in points. A pool/garden and a boardwalk view are the same points. If they moved you to a standard view then there would be a difference in points.

When they moved the animals at AKV, they charged Standard view points. Given they are taking something away (BW view), some type of compensation is reasonable. Not that they have to but they should. For most of those people, they would likely not have booked the preferred view at the same points and would have rather paid the less points for standard view (which was likely available at the time of booking) or possibly chosen a different resort at 7 months out.

Have a great time. The one time I stayed at VWL, I loved it. It was so peaceful and relaxing. Boardwalk will be there for a while (2042?) so there will be plenty of opportunites to stay there. I think you made a good choice.
