According to the photos on all ears net dot com, there's a bar in the Belle Vue Room.

Does anyone know the hours this bar serves? How busy is the room?

I'm thinking about using it as a meeting place for our party of 22 when we arrive for a family reunion vacation. (11 adults, 11 kids aged 9 - 23)

We arrive on Sunday, Nov 23. (That's Thanksgiving week, if it matters.)

Thanks.

Here are some pictures of the lounge: http://allears.net/acc/bw5.jpg, http://allears.net/acc/bw6.jpg, http://allears.net/acc/bw7.jpg, http://allears.net/acc/bw8.jpg. I don't know the hours for sure, but I've gotten breakfast there and a drink in the evening. It's pretty small. The pictures show the room from different angles, and you're seeing all the seating that's there except for a couple of tables outside on the balcony. I think how busy it is would depend on the time of day.

Thanks.

I just called the resort but was screened by a call center. The person who answered wasn't familiar with the Belle Vue Room. But, she looked it up and, according to her information, the BVR is closed permanently.

Is that true? I can understand discontinuing the food and bev service. But closing it altogether sounds illogical.

Anyone know?

Wow--I'm amazed! Maybe someone who has been there more recently than I have (May) will jump in. I hope this isn't right. AFAIK, it's the main bar for the BWI/BWV.

I'd be shocked if it was closed, because its a bar that after Illuminations is ALWAYS packed and pouring martinis is profitable.

Which answers your first question - it isn't crowded mid day - it is packed most evenings - particularly from about 9:30 - 11:00. Its open to the resort and we've "lounged" in the lounge when the bar has been closed.

I'd be surprised as well. Not even from a DVC point of view, but from a hotel guest point of view - technically it's on the Boardwalk Inn side, and that's hotel rooms - it's their main bar as well.

I don't know if it's open or not, but it's not all that big. A group of 22 might be a snug fit.

:woohoo: Just got the word from people currently staying at the BWV....The Belle Vue Room is open and very busy!

Thanks for the update! That's great news. :cool1:

I'm pretty sure it doesn't open until 5 pm, don't know when it closes.

That was my first thought too. If bringing 22 people there, definitely avoid the busy times!

I guess my thought is if someone brings a group of 22 people in, what about the other guests that might want to be in the room. It is not a large area. I always enjoy going there in the mornings for my coffee and the evenings for a beer or two. But I sure wouldn't want to be in there if a group of 22 people arrived.

Sorry to inconvenience you but that location is the best chance we have for the children to say hello to the elderly grand aunt and uncle they've never met.

The 10 kids range in age from 9 - 22 and are very well behaved. They won't stay long or make a fuss. After they head off to the BW or Community Hall, the grown-ups will remain and we'll try not to take up much space or disturb the other guests.

Our group will gather in the room from approximately 7:00 - 8:30 pm on Sunday, November 23, 2008. You may want to schedule your beer for earlier or later in order to avoid us.

YOU might find that by 7:00 at night, twenty two people won't fit in the Bellevue room - whether you are concerned about inconveniencing others or not. It isn't a big space, the furniture is laid out to chop up what space there is into more intimate spaces. Twenty two would fit before the bar opens, but if you get beat to the location by a similar number of people, you may find it tight - and if the misbehaving wedding parties are out in force (which happens a bit at the Bellevue Room) might not find it too comfortable with kids. It might also be loud if the older folks are a little hard of hearing for them to be able to catch young voices.

There are some other options - the back porch at the Boardwalk is really nice and almost always underutilized. Its also really quiet. You could meet there, have everyone have a nice conversation, then have the kids move to the community hall while the grown ups go get a drink.

ETA: Its really luck of the draw though - you might find it empty at seven, or you might find it occupied by a wedding party or two that started their afternoon "drinking around the world." If its empty, its a great location for what you want.

We had a reservation at Flying Fish and stopped by around 6:30pm for a drink and it was just to crowded and noisy. It was also on a Saturday night the week of Thankgiving. There were four of us and could not find a place to sit or stand.

We have been during the week at the same time and maybe six or eight people only in the bar. But even with that there was only about six spots left to sit.

I would say give it a try but have a backup plan.

Can we have our refillable mugs refilled at BVR?

They will at breakfast, but I went in one evening and the bartender told me they really weren't supposed to except in the morning. I told him I understood, that all I wanted was some water. He said that was no problem--he could always give people water. However, they don't actually fill the mug itself--they'll give it to you in a glass and you can pour it in the mug. (I should add that this was in May--it may have totally changed since then.)

Sorry if I ruffled your feathers with my remark. It won't effect us - we won't even be there then. But I was just in general remarking, it is a very small area and to have that many people there, would definitely make me want to leave if I wasn't in the group. It was just an observation.

mid-week this past august, it was fairly empty (less than 10 ppl). it did get a bit loud, as ppl drank more & more, but not out of hand (there was a family with young children there until about 11pm).

do make sure to order a red rum from the bartender, lloyd ;)

We were there a week ago and it was open. It's on the Boardwalk Inn side. It's a open area, not very big. But the bartender was also serving people outside, but I didn't see how that looked. It reminds me of a library older theme, I did see board games on the shelf. There was a sign outside on the boardwalk that said you can have your refillable mug filled there and they do have breakfast, but it's more continental not the hot foods.
