Help! I am starting making reservations to stay 9 days at BWV next July (my 11 month window starts tomorrow)

My mother in law is going with us, she is handicapped, not in a wheelchair but needs a cane to get around. Is it better for us to request the handicapped rooms overlooking the pool or the boardwalk or just request a boardwalk view by the elevators.

Does anyone know if there are 2 bedroom units on the boardwalk close to the elevators or if the pool view rooms for handicapped are the best.

We will have 4 kids with us 13, 11, 7, and 1 year old. Yes they will probably be in the pool for 4 hours each day, so that should be a factor to consider.

My mother in law would spend much time on the balcony as well so we need to weigh the options

Any input will be greatly appreciated!

Please help!

IMHO, the most important thing to request is a room close to the elevators to minimize the walking your MIL must do. I don't know much about the handicapped rooms themselves, but since your MIL gets around with a cane, you may not need one. I understand the showers in the handicapped room tend to "flood" the bathroom floor when they are used. That might be more of a hazard to your MIL than the traditional shower.

As for the view, since your MIL will probably spend the most time on the balcony, why not ask her if she'd rather sit on the balcony and watch the grandkids at the pool or watch the activity on the Boardwalk? FWIW, you'll be more likely to get the Luna Park Pool view than you will the Boardwalk view. But I think you should request whatever you think you would enjoy the most.

Enjoy the planning!

I had a HC 1BR at BWV and had a view of the roof of the bar and the top of the slide. But I was close to the elevator.
I would request the BW view close to an elevator. As Carol said you will probably get the pool view and hopefully close to the elevator.

May I suggest a wheelchair? My mother came along with us during the July 4th holiday. Although not in a wheelchair, she does suffer from Osteoporosis and arthritis. Knowing that she would begin to get uncomfortable each day the longer we walked, I simply requested a wheelchair from BWV during our stay. One was available when we checked in, and it was ours to use throughout our stay at BWV. The wheelchair was also collapsible so it could be transported easily in the bus or car.

Having the wheelchair eliminates the need to request a room near the elevator (although many would enjoy that request regardless). This will open up a better possibility for the view you prefer. With the renovation going on at BWV, many rooms are not being booked due to scaffolding and workers. If you do happen to get a Boardwalk view, consider yourself lucky. That was the only thing I requested during my stay, and I called at the 11 month mark and made ressies day by day. It is a hit or miss process. We did have a view of Luna Pool, and it was a very pleasant view as well.

A wheelchair is a good idea. We have friends who went with their father and he has bad knees. They called a medical equipment company down there and rented one of those scooters. It got delivered right to their hotel, and was theirs to use for the entire trip. The ones you can rent at the parks are only good for use in the parks, and we all know that there is a lot more walking around WDW than just the parks...especially in the BW area...there is a lot to see and do right there. Your MIL would feel less dependent in a scooter than a wheelchair...it is self-propelled and she wouldn't always need someone to push her. Check the disabilities board. They have good info there about that sort of thing.

There are no 2BR's with boardwalk view that are close to the elevator. All the 2BR's are over the Big River Grill and DVC store and are long walk from the elevator. There are two bedrooms that overlook the main pool that are close to the elevator.

That's the information I was looking for, thanks! And thanks for all the great info!
