We are on a waitlist for the week of New Year's at BW. Someone here very helpfully told me that I should ask to be put on "day by day" rather than waiting for the whole stay. Since then, we got 12/27, 12/28, 1/2 and 1/3; however, we are still missing the nights of 12/29, 12/30, 12/31 and 1/1.

Since those are clearly the optimum nights, does anyone think we have a real chance? Has anyone had luck with this kind of request at such a high time period before?

(the room type we chose is studio preferred, if that helps with your opinion....)

We'll be at BWV NYE also, having made the ressie first thing in the morning at 11-months. We got a standard view Studio. This will be our 5th NYE at WDW and that is a very popular time for DVC, especially since only the last days of December are premier season. Beginning Jan 1st it's Adventure season, so point wise you can get several days around NYE fairly reasonably.

As to any real chance you have that depends probably where you are on the wait list. After a Standard view studio, I think a Preferred view studio is the next most popular, again because of the point costs.

I can understand your wanting BWV because of the proximity to Epcot, which is a great place to be for NYE. However, have you considered also waitlisting at perhaps OKW for the missing days, or even the whole time? You might have better luck there since the resort is much larger. Also it's possible there are people on the wait list who are ahead of you who already have confirmed ressies at OKW. If the waitlist comes open for them at BWV, that would leave an opening at OKW.

I don't know if MS can tell you what number you are on the list. If you're in first place then you might hold out. If you're way down the list, then I'd say your chances for 12/31 are propably non-existant and you might try another resort.

Good Luck.

Is there any chance you could expand your options? Wait list for either type studio and maybe even a one-bedroom? How about BCV? You could add something there as well.

As Caskbill suggests, if you really want to go have a place to lay your head on standby. See if you could get the missing days and/or the whole trip at OKW, VWL or BCV. You could then wait for days to open up at BWV and add them on to what you have.

Chances are probably good that you'll get your nights by the time December rolls around. It's 12/31 that might prove difficult.

I think your chances may depend upon when you made the reservation. If you made it before the 7 month window opened, then you may have a chance. If it was after the 7 month window, it will be very difficult for you to get something. Good luck and follow the other advice and get on every waitlist you can.

I think you've been given good advice here. Do you have a backup reservation for the days that haven't come through yet?

I agree with PamOKW that you probably have a decent shot at getting your other nights to come through between now and December, especially since you're going for a preferred and not a standard unit. But as she said, NYE could be your toughest hurdle, though certainly not out of the question. How early did you make the ressie?

I called first thing in the morning, day by day at the 11-month window to book for Dec. 28-Jan. 4 at BWV. I was going for a standard 2BR. But on the day I was calling to book NYE, I couldn't get through to MS until 9:15 AM. By the time I got through, the standard 2BR were gone and I had to waitlist. I have a preferred 2BR reserved for that night in the meantime. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that NYE comes through.

Good luck to you! Please keep us posted on your progress with the waitlist. :D

Bump up so hopefully those who answered will read.

First of all, thanks so much for responding...I've said it before, but I'll say it again...this board is the best. I always get the honest answers I need in a friendly way!

Anyway, we do have a backup ressie for those days at OKW (made at 11 mo window) but then DH decided he really wanted to stay at BWV this time. I don't mind switching resorts once but I don't want to do BW-OKW-BW...too much work!

I heard back from Member Services and they said they cannot tell me where I am on the waiting list, that there is no way to tell... I find that odd. Has anyone ever gotten an answer to this question?

Thanks again to all those who answered...you guys are the best!

The answer to where you are on the wait list is "It depends!"

Because of the way the wailtist works, there is no simple way to tell where you are- there isn't really a physical list- it's all compiled in the computer database.

There may be someone on the list whose reservation begins a day or more prior to your request, some one else whose reservation begins a day later, some who are on the auto-day-by-day list and some on the "call-to-confirm" list. When a date becomes available, the computer will automatically select the next name on the waitlist- depending on the circumstances of the reservation and when they entered the list.

The best way to fill missing dates using the waitlist is by using the daily auto-confirm method- where you will automatically get each day as it becomes available. Those who want to be called for a 5 day reservation will only get called if all of their dates become available at once and they respond to the call in the appropriate allowed time. Days that become available individually are not saved for a longer reservation- they just go to the next daily auto-confirm on the list.

I'd think that you still have a good chance of success this far in advance.

Good Luck!

The thread above was moved to rent/trade board. It's for a NYE reservation. I'm not suggesting you do this, but if you absolutely have to be there on NYE....then maybe you take this reservation and rent your own points....that's the suggestion this person is making. Just wanted to make you aware of the option. I'm not a renter myself. I prefer to wait for the waitlist and/or to take another venue. If you want to be BCV or BWV...why not do what other's have suggested and use this as an opportunity to see another venue like OKW or VWL.

For this upcoming July trip I was originally only able to get 2 of 5 nighst at BCV so I booked the rest in a 2BR at VWL. I was actually disappointed when the waitlist came thru and I had to make a decision to stay all 5 nights in a 1BR or try a 2BR at VWL where we've eaten but never stayed. Since this is our first stay at BCV and we have a cranky 3yr old who won't want to move....I took the waitlist. But next time I don't think I will.

Pen--

I went on the waitlist in April last year, hoping to get a 2-bedroom at BWV on NYE. Never did come through. Had a back-up at OKW, which turned out great given the serious rain that fell that night, and I got to experience the legendary spaciousness of the OKW 2-bedroom!

You are right about not wanting to move and move back...we did and I would just stay put at OKW if I had to do it over again.

Hello all,

I just wanted to thank all for their advice and let everyone know what happened...the waitlist did come through right after the 30 day cancellation period passed. I got a call and we now have one contiguous reservation at the BW. I guess it does pay to be patient and to have options. OKW would have been fine for me, but I'm glad we got BW since that's what the family wants.

Thanks everyone!
Joan

Well that is good news! The waitlist really does work, as we are 2 for 2 when waitlisting...

Sorry you had to sweat it out but this is one time of year that patience often pays off. People have intentions of going but sometimes the plans fall through as the actual holiday approaches. I had put together a trip for this time of year but had to cancel a few weeks ago. Maybe I helped free things up for you. ;)

I'm sorry you had to cancel, Pam...hope you will be rescheduling soon! You are such a great source on this board..we need you to keep going to WDW so you can keep giving us your thoughts!
