Buzz's final 2026 World Cup tournament thread. The World Cup starts June 11, 2026. Let the countdown begin! 😁 ⚽️ 🏟 🌎

Hey @Buzz Rules ~ DH was just notified he has been selected as a Volunteer for the World Cup matches in Atlanta!! He's pumped. No other info yet, they'll follow up with training information. ⚽

Not World Cup, but worldly we have received info that we can put in for tickets for March match USMNT vs Portugal .... I want to go to that one to see Ronaldo!! We already get tickets for USMNT vs Belgium with our season tickets.

Currently watching now… hopefully Group D will serve us well! It’s like the Kennedy Center Honors came early…

@Buzz Rules, without links, can you explain why some teams picked get position one and why some get position two and some are getting position three when they’re all being picked in the same round? Also, why can’t some countries play other certain countries? This seeding is very confusing.

The rule is that teams from the same confederation can't play each other in the group stage. The exception being Europe. The seeding of pots are based on world ranking. The position of group play is predetermined by a computer which is a change from the last draw. FIFA did it to make the draw go faster. The top 4 ranked teams are not allowed to meet each other until the semi finals if the predicted results align.

Yep, and the toddler got his happy meal prize.
He sure did. Two peas in a pod, the gifter and the recipient.
This is really irrelevant to the meaning of the draw. I ignore all the pomp and circumstance political nonsense during the draw. We can't talk about it here anyway. I have a controversial world cup thread on the controversial board if you would like to discuss those aspects of the world cup.

Also, host nations take away a spot from the top 12 nations. For example, the USA and Mexico would have been pot 2 if they were not hosts.

Pretty happy with the draw for the USA. In digging around it appears that perhaps a runner up finish in the group might yield a theoretically easier path to continue through to at least the group of 16 or even farther, but I'd rather the team just win the group and go on.

It's a winnable group for us. Canada could even advance as a third place team.

You're right, For Canada it depends on who wins that playoff spot. You'd think it would be Italy, but......

Qatar is #51
Italy is #12
Switzerland is #17
Canada is #27

So....if it's Italy then chalk would say Canada finishes #3 behind Italy and Switzerland but you never know and Canada gets that home crowd; game 1 is Toronto and 2/3 are in Vancouver

Group A would be my pick for "group of death". Top 2 from each group advances. Mexico and South Korea look like shoe-ins, but what you don't see is the playoff team in that group is winner of Denmark/North Macedonia/Czechia/Republic of Ireland. That alone is stronger "group" than a lot of the other groups.
