I've been on BLSRS back in 2000 and I loved it. It seems that these 2 rides are very similar, if not exactly alike. For anyone who has been on both, is one better than the other? I feel like it would be a waste to go on both rides (I know they are in 2 different theme parks). TIA! :wave2:

they have as much in common with eachother as a vw bug has with a tank

TSM has WAAAYY more advanced tecnology than BLSRP. It's not a waste to do both (no more than it's a waste to ride Space Mountain and Rockin' Roller Coaster) but if I had to choose one, TSM is just more fun IMHO.

I am a Buzz fan :thumbsup2 and ride that ride over and over trying to improve my score. So far I've only been able to do Toy Story Mania once, and that was at DCA. I've read that the one in Anaheim and the one in WDW are nearly identical. I by far prefer Buzz. The 3-D glasses :3dglasses that you wear on Toy Story are distracting, and the pull-string on the gun (vs a trigger at Buzz) is a lot slower and a lot more work.

Even so, I would ride both at least once. They are quite different. And since they have FastPass at DHL (they don't at DCA and the lines were horrendous) you should be able to give it a try without waiting a long time in line. At DCA we got in line just as they were closing for the night, and it still took nearly 30 minutes.

To infinity . . . and beyond!

I like both but much prefer TSM. "Sheer joy" was how 19 yo DS described it. They are quite different though.

Toy Story Mania rules. I love that ride and the technology is awesome. It seems you can shoot more on TSM and see the points really add up then on BLY. My kids said they like it more then BLY,

TSM is my number one pick.....

As others have said, these two attractions are only "similar" in very broad terms. The do both use a Toy Story theme, you do ride in a vehicle in both of them, and you do shoot at things in both of them. But they are vastly different experiences and nobody would ever think them the same. :teacher:

Both rides are cool, but I agree with those who say they are totally different. We found Buzz more difficult -- you can't really see where you're aiming and the red laser dot can be difficult to spot. TSM, by contrast, shows you your shots as you do them (for instance, in one segment, you pull the trigger and see rings coming from your shooter to your target. It's easier to score that way, and also more fun.

If you only want to ride one, go with TSM. It ended up being my favorite attraction in the three parks we visited. Time permitting, I would have ridden it over and over again.

I avoid Buzz if at all possible. My hand/wrist always hurt after doing that atttraction. But Toy Story??? Love it! They are similar but very different. I doubt I'll be doing Buzz ever again now that I have TSM!!!

I love them both and as others have said, 2 totally different rides, and I don't mean in a Dumbo, Flying Carpet, Triceratops Spin kind of different.

The other thing about BL is I had found a few targets that give a LOT more points so it is very common that I'm in a car by myself and max out one gun at 999,999 and slide over and start using the other just so I can keep playing or else I'm twiddling my thumbs the rest of the ride. It's also common that they slow this ride down or stop it and you can sit there racking up points, when you get to 999,999 you are done no matter where you are in the game.

This can't happen at TSM, if the ride stops, you can keep shooting for fun but the targets change to 0 points and they even show that way.

But, I still love both and I usually end up with 3-4 fastpasses for BL the past few trips, sometimes I can't even use them all and give them away as we leave the park.

Oh they are totally different!! I thought they were the same before I rode Toy Story Mania. I hate Buzz...it's boring and you can't see if you've hit the target or not...and the targets can be soooo far. On Mania you CAN see if you've hit the target or not and it's FUN. It's fun to see the plates BREAK that you shoot at....it's fun to see the ring actually go around the space creature.... You shoot a cannon rather than a gun and it's way easier. Also on Mania you are doing about five or six different games, NOT just shooting at circles with 'Z's in them over and over again.

Mania is SO MUCH BETTER!!

TSM is WAAAAAY better!
It is much more advanced technology wise.
And it is much more immersing...air and water fly out at you if hit certain targets.
I found it much better and don't really have any use for Buzz Lightyear anymore...it's nothing compared to TSM.

Now that I have become a Galactic Hero on Buzz (999,999 points) I have a new challenge with TSM. The Technology is awesome, and the way you can see where you are shooting and watch what you are hitting break it cool. TSM is a lot more challenging then Buzz and I can't wait until they open a new ride at DHS so that the lines for TSM go down so you can ride it more then twice in a day without waiting for 2 hours in line.

They're nowhere near alike except for the fact that you're supposed to shoot at stuff.

We enjoy both of them, but you have to try TSM!!! It is so cool!!! We were there this summer and did TSM three times and Buzz at least 5 times as the wait is of course shorter. If you have time to do both, go for it!!
