Buying tickets at the gate and getting fastpasses that day

We're going to the MK mid December (will be there before rope drop) -- crowd level 4 per Easy WDW // Was crowd level 5 from touring plans, but has been moved down to a crowd level 2.

We aren't buying park tickets in advance, as two in our party who will only decide at the last minute if they want to go or not. Two of us will go for sure, but two are still on the maybe camp for the MK. Will decide MK day or resort day last minute.

Anyway, our wait time predictions per touring plans except for two rides late afternoon (second ride on one thing and third on another just to kill time as we want to stay all day to see the night time parade and fireworks) are pretty short -- lots of walk on - everything 20 minutes or less except the two later in the day.

Later in the day, though, there is a 51 minute wait prediction for Space Mountain and a 27 minute prediction for that new Under the Sea ride (We will have already done both in the morning with short waits and even two rides on Space Mountain most likely).

I guess my overall question is what kind of chances do I have of reserving FP+ for late afternoon times the morning of? What has been your experience on being able to do this on moderate crowd days?

Have you personally been able to get fastpasses in the 4-6 p.m. timeframe day of at the Magic Kingdom?

We have had a few days in which we weren't able to get FPs in advance because of entering the park with CM Main Gate passes. Our options at MK were quite good. No 7DMT of course, but all of the other rides, including Space Mountain and BTMRR were available.

Because two of you are going for sure, buy your tickets now and schedule FPs. As soon as the others purchase their tickets, link them to your MDE account and copy your FPs to them.

If you aren't able to copy them, then schedule new rides for your complete group. At least this way you have a better chance of riding desired rides.
