Buying resale and hoping to use points in Aug?

Firstly, I have spent many hours over the last several years (since we took our first DVC tour in 2006) on these boards researching. We have gone back and firth many times on purchasing at all, resale, directly from Disney, etc. We've finally made a decision to buy resale and have found some listings that nicely fit our needs. We will be contacting a resale company regarding a BWV resale tomorrow.

With that said, we vacation typically the last week or so in August (right before our girls go back to school and when the crowds are tolerable). If we start the process tomorrow-ish, is there a chance that we will be able to get in ANY DVC resort considering that we may not get our points for over 2 months?

I would appreciate any feedback you may have!

I think you should find something if not BWV at least one of the other hotels. (SSR OKW):wizard:

Welcome and congratulations on your decision!

If you start your process on Monday and all goes smoothly you should have your points by June. I can't say about availability because it changes constantly but think that you may have a decent chance of getting something for that week in Aug. Probably at SSR, OKW and AKV because they are the biggest resorts. You could also do a split stay.

Just a tip, studios book up first then 2 bedrooms. Your best bet would be to try for a 1 bedroom as they book up last.

Best of luck with your resale.

For the last 2 weeks in August, you should be OK getting something if you start tomorrow. That assumes you don't have any snags and most don't. Just have a plan in place just in case it doesn't work out.

Anything's possible, all you can do is buy and find out. Make sure that you can bank in case you want to wait to vacation next year with double the points.

I wouldn't count on it. We bought the end of Jan. Passéd ROFR in late Feb., sent payment over a week ago and we're still being given the ol' Disney is backed up story. it's our 3rd contract and it's taking way longer now. We wanted to hit the home resort window for November and the rooms are already gone. we're thrilled to have more points but not thrilled it's taken a full 2-3 weeks longer than last time we bought resale.

Be glad to buy but prepared to roll with the punches with a plan "B" if needed.

You will probably have success as long as you are open to any resort. We bought last year and booked spring break easter week 2 BR at SSR less than 2 months out. We own at BLT - that and everything else was completely booked (a I expected). We happy to be at SSR!

Late August is one of the slowest periods for DVC: high point cost and bad weather. You'll find something available even with short notice but to avoid disappointment I wouldn't count on BWV: plan for SSR and if you can have BWV it will be a nice surprise.

SSR is probably your best bet. You should look into Plan B. I priced out a 2bd SSR through Orbitz for end of July/early Aug. The total price (including tax) comes out to roughly $8.50 per point. It really doesn't get any cheaper than that. Plus they offer free cancellation up to 5 days before check in.

That about mirrors my timeline, except I wanted something at the beginning of August. Worked out that I was able to do a split-stay BWV/BLT. I could have done all the days at SSR and later at Kidani (the day I switched to a split stay), but wanted to try out those other resorts. So long you're open to the possibility of a split-stay, I'd say you're gonna be pretty good.

Many thanks for the replies. We are open to any resort and room size (prefer a 2 BR as the contract has all of last years points and we'd like to take some family along). We'll just continue on with the process and cross our fingers!
