Buying extra days vs. the hopper option...

Please excuse if I'm being totally ignorant about this, BUT the way I look at it... it's cheaper to buy extra days of tickets and use them on the same day instead of hopping... can this be right?

I see that it would cost us about $2 per adult extra in order to get 7 days vs. 6 days of tickets. That means that if we actually want to go "parking" on 6 days, we can spend the extra $2 per ticket and have two days of hopping (as long as we only go to 2 diff parks on each of those hopping days). This is a savings of $33 per adult. Hopping on two days is the most we would want to do since we will have 3 kids with us, and won't have a car. I am thinking this is the way to go for us. Actually what we'd probably do is this:

Friday - MK
Sat - MGM
Sun - AK
Mon - Typhoon Lagoon (buy ticket seperately)
Tues- Epcot
Wed - MK in morning/afternoon (relax that night)
Thurs - AK in Morning & MGM in evening
Fri - leave after spending time at resort

The plan above means we'd need 7 days of passes, then have to buy tickets for Typhoon Lagoon. OR we could have one day of relaxation (a possibility we're looking at) and HOP on two days instead of one. This means we wouldn't have to buy the plus plan, or hopper passes. Am I looking at this the right way? Does this plan sound/look good? Also... can we get an 8-day pass to hop on 3 days?? Are they available and if so, what do they cost?

TIA!! :teeth:

I thought the same Thing you do, and infact was even told it was allowed, by the CM that booked my ressies. Then I found out on this board, that that was not allowed, so I called back to Disney and sure enough, I wasn't given the correct information.. if you want to HOP you must buy the HOPPING option.

Sorry I see that I was being confusing... I meant to say one day of hopping. I was thinking that later I'd mention the option of hopping on two days, if we had a day of rest where we just stayed at resort and went to DTD. Oops... hope someone can understand my ramblings!

I believe I read on Mousesavers.com that you can not substitute days for hopping. -Heres what Mousesavers says-

"I have been asked if you could buy, say, a 10-Day Base Ticket and use it as a 5-Day Hopper by visiting two parks per day. The answer is no. You can only use one admission per day with the new Magic Your Way Base Tickets. So you really can't use them as Hoppers unless you buy the Park Hopper Option."

Now I really am confused.... what's to stop us from going to resort to nap, etc. and then use our tickets to get into a different park afterwards? Don't we get like 7 tickets to use wherever we want? Or is it ONE pass that we use over and over again? I guess I'm really naive about it. You're saying that they literally won't let us into a park during a day where we've already been to a different one. That's really hard to believe. It seems like we could go to 7 parks in one day and just not have any "passes" left... but you're saying "no", right?

Anyone else want to help me muddle my way through understanding this??? :confused3

You will get one "Ticket" that works like a pass while you are there and the computer will be able to read if you have been to another park and if you have the hopper option-they are not individual tickets.

Because the tickets get cheaper per day the more days you buy (only about $3 per day after you pass 5 days), Disney thought of this "loophole" and closed it. Your ticket will not work if you try to go to a second park on the same day unless you buy the hopper option.

Look at it this way.... no matter what size ticket you get, you will pay a flat $35 per ticket to add the hopper option. However, once you get up to the difference between a 5 day and a 6 day ticket, they difference in adding another day would be abou $3. It really depends on how many days you have to spend in the parks, and if you want to have a non expiring feature, because, remember, if you don't add it, and the ticket gets to be more than 14 days old, it can no longer be used, upgraded and the remaining days can't be refunded or applied to any other ticket.
