Would you recommend buying DVC to someone that would only be going every other year? I'm just wondering if it would be worth it. I can see us going more than every other year in the future but not right now.
Yes, DVC would work great for you if you only go every other year. You can just get the minimum points and save money. It's well worth it in my opinion.
The general rule of thumb on purchasing which resort is "which resort would you want to stay at the most". The 11 month booking window is key if you plan that far in advance.
We've belonged to DVC for almost 6 years and it has definately paid for itself.
We purchased planning on going every other or even every third year. Our plan is to bank, borrow, and rent out points depending on need. We've only gone to WDW on points once - but LOVED it and definately are happy with our purchase.

Depends on the number of days you want to stay, room size and season. No sense buying 150 points direct from DVC if you only want to spend a week in a studio every other year during Adventure season.
We only have 150 points August use year and go to WDW everyother year. First trip in Oct 2003 (used 2002 and 2003 points for a 2 bedroom). This trip in August we are staying Sun-Thurs in a 2 bedroom also had enough banked points for two studios for my DS and my inlaws (using 2004 and 2005 points).
I am very careful with my points. In July 2006 we are planning HHI for 4 nights (no weekends) and maybe WDW in Dec 2006. We will be in the hole till 2008, but we are okay with that.
I think in the future we will add on points, but right now we are fine with what we have.
We bought intending to go every other year. We bought 170 points at BWV and we are limited to peak season because I am a school teacher. That gets us about enough for a preferred view during peak season, though I wish I'd bought 5 more points to make it an even 350 every two years. We have been lucky to get standard and not use all the points, but I figure we could always borrow a couple. As our situation changes, retirement, kids getting married, having kids, grandkids, etc. it seems like a nice amount of points to have. We aren't in a position to just drop everything and head to Disney, as much as I would like to, but we may be some day. We also have other vacation destinations which we would be hard pressed to give up, mostly Myrtle Beach area for the beach and golf. Prior to buying, we'd never gone to WDW every other year, but our decision was base somewhat on the home away from home concept, where 15 years from now we can have a big get together with the family. There are really a whole lot of different things to consider and a lot of different ways to use your points.
