is this stupid?

I love DVC!

I want to also own at Starwood, to have access to Atlantis, Maui and WestIN ST John's. I will not purchase Starwood, because much harder to sell than DVC.

I really like the ability to book at DVC, less than 7 days, at 11 month window at home resort, or 7 month month window at non home dvc resort

IN starwood, your booking window, for your home resort is 11 montsh. If you book less than 7 days, at your home resort or some other STARWOOD RESORT, your booking window is reduced to only 60 days.
I find this very unappealing.

If a person bought DVC points, just to dO DIRECT trades, not II TRADES with your DVC POINTS with Starwood owners.

is that stupid?

I guess a direct trade of DVC POINTS, for STarwood Points, for less than a week, has the same 60 day booking problem.

IS DVC so valuable, people, would trade sund-thur DVC Points, for an entire week at a STarwood, Atlantis, Maui or West In ST johns. Even if I do not want an entire week at STarwood resort. I have to book it for a week, to get the 11 month window booking.

I would trade sun - thurs for a week at atlantis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:moped:

Have you checked the internet or the TUG board for trades or sales of Starwood? If you could get a cheap Starwood, perhaps that would be preferable to trading DVC. If you already own DVC points, try a trade one year and see what happens. You won't be out anything, in either case.:)

CRUEDIVILLE

if you purchase atlantis resale, the closing takes 6 months, annual dues are very very expensive and don't I have the same problem. If I only want to use for four or five nights. I have to book all seven to get the reservation in 11 month window, instead of waiting for 2 month window.
very difficult to sale imho

DVC becomes more attrative every day.

Sorry but I do not think that would be a reasonable or smart move to make. It would be hit or miss and at this time, DVC doesn't even trade directly into Atlantis, it's been taken off the list. If you want to stay at various starwood properties including Atlantis, I'd buy into the system. If you don't think you'd use it enough to justify buying, just rent, look for direct exchanges or try through II directly using you're Marriott or something else you buy.

You're best bet is likely to just bite the bullet and rent from an owner or the direct exchange using what you already have. You could always look for a resale there for the future.

If you do a direct trade with an owner, you are still subject to ALL the same booking restrictions that Starwood has PLUS you add the problem of locating a willing, trustworthy owner with whom you can trade. Sorry, I don't see how this could possibly be preferable to buying a resale or renting from owners.

Remember the timeshare mantra: If you're going to buy, buy where you want to vacation the most - resale, if would save a lot of $$$!

Thank you everyone. I Knew it was not a good idea, and am glad that you all confirmed this.
