We are considering purchasing a resale at OKW. We are new to this and our understanding is that the more points bought at the lowest price is the thing to do. Why is it so important to buy at certain places if the points can be used in any of them? We have never even seen OKW but have stayed at all the others. Would we have difficulty booking our favorite, Beach Club?

Depending on the time of year, you might have trouble. Would you be disappointed staying at OKW if you couldn't get into the BCV? If you answered yes, then you should wait and buy the BCV. If you like to go during the popular times of the year it may be a problem. These include school vacations, early December and during the Food and Wince Festival.

It's important ot own where you want to stay because you get the 11 month booking priority there. That means that only owners at tha resort can book there from 11 to 7 months in advance. At 7 months, the reservations open to everyone.

We own points at OKW, VWL and BCV. We finally decided in January to go this summer - we thought we might go to California instead. But after our great January trip we decide to hit WDW this summer. We tried to get BCV in early June (points are low, school is just out and we have JCAHO coming this summer) and all the studios and one bedrooms were booked.

If you book at exactly 7 months out during some of the busier times (holidays, Food & Wine, etc), you might be able to get those non-home resorts.

But if you want to get that Grand Villa at Christmas time or the Beach Cottage in Summer, you had better have that resort as your home resort. If you can go anything and not limited to school breaks, etc, you should be okay. If you can't make a decision less than three or four months ahead of time, you might not get any resort.

Everyone says to buy where you want to stay. With all the SSR owners coming on once the resort is finished, you may need that 11-8 month ahead of time to beat them out.

But I adore OKW. The rooms are huge. The balconies are giant. And I love parking just outside my villa.

That said, we also own at BCV and VWL to get those 11 month heads up for summer and Christmas.
