Buying direct & banking points?

Bit of a hypothetical question but planning for the future!

If I bought a DVC contract direct with Disney in May 2025, and requested a September UY, could I then bank those points (which are Sept 2024 points)? I know there is the 8 month cut-off for banking points, but does that apply when you purchase a contract or is there a bit of an allowance?

Basically we usually visit in the months of Sept, Oct, May & June. We are keen to purchase a contract on our visit in May 2025 (if the price is right). We have a big family birthday in 2026 so would be back at Disney in May 2026 and we would be keen to treat the family to a nice stay by using 3 years lots of points. So my thinking was to have 2024 points banked, 2025 points to use & 2026 points borrowed. However, when we set up our contract I obviously want to make sure we are also choosing a Use Year that suits our holiday needs for future & not just this one trip's points requirements. So Sept UY I think would be perfect, but not ideal if we cant then bank the 2024 points for this.

Is there other months UY that could work for us? Still getting to grips with the whole concept. We are UK based and usually book our trips 9-12 months out so very very rarely would we be cancelling/rescheduling last minute as obviously flights etc would be affected too so I'm maybe just overthinking the UY situation.

Thanks!

Typically DVC will bank your first years points if you buy direct after the 8 month banking deadline as a one time exception.
An issue some have run into is DVC saying they aren’t currently selling the use year you want. The guide will say we’re only selling Dec., Feb., whatever use years right now, for ex.. However if you really push the guide will typically ‘get approval’ to sell you the use year you want.

We purchase in July with an August UY and we’re able to bank those points in a matter of 2 minutes via chat. Very easy.

Just keep in mind we don’t yet know which UYs of points PVB tower will start with, if that is a resort you are considering.

But, other than that, yes, DVC allows late banking for direct purchases.

I'm no expert on Use Year, but I personally wouldn't be comfortable with a Sept use year if you travel in May and June. If you have to cancel one of those trips, you wouldn't have much time to reschedule especially with considering travel from the UK. I would go with April as a use year, maybe March as a second choice.

Thanks everyone - really appreciate your help, a lot to think about but thankfully we have plenty time to decide :)
