After a busy day at the parks (everyone hot and tired), I ran down to Mara to get some milk for the kids. While there, I picked up two cold beers- one for dh one for myself thinking we could enjoy them when the kids were asleep. When I got to the register the girl asked if I was by myself. I said yes, and she said 'then I can only sell you one beer'.

I explained the other beer was for my husband who was upstairs minding the kids. She still refused. The girl in front of me who was waiting for pizza then offered to buy it for me, and right in front of the checkout clerk, I handed her the money and she paid for the beer.
I thanked her profusely as did the guy behind me in line (who couldn't believe this was happening) who joked that she had saved my poor dh the bother of coming down again.

What's the deal with this rule? Are Disney afraid I will get drunk on the two beers? Maybe she thought I was buying them for a minor? I dunno, but it seems kinda crazy to me.

Hmm, that's an interesting one. DH did have a problem getting drinks at the pool at AKL. He didn't need his ID, but I did? We're only a couple of years apart, but I was wet from swimming and he couldn't tell my age... Thanks, I guess.

Maybe it's an AKL thing. Come to think of it, I really shouldn't complain that he carded me...:D

LOL....They are enforcing that 1 person/1 beer rule pretty well at all the WDW drinking venues. All you had to do was go upstairs to Zawadi Marketplace where you can buy as many cold 6-packs as you so desire.....

They are enforcing the one beer per person at the All Stars also.

They really enforced the rule a few years ago at the pool bar at CBR, too.

I was sitting at a table near the bar, and DH went up to the bar to get our drinks. Even though he pointed out that he was getting a drink for each of us, I had to go over to the bar. Sometimes they asked for ID, and sometimes they didn't. I did have to go over in person though, for each round.

I guess they are trying to prevent someone buying that 2nd drink for an underage person.

We're pretty much used to it at Polynesian. It was a bit of a bother when the kids were younger and couldn't be left alone at poolside since one would have to go then the other in order to get a drink. We've pretty much sidestepped this issue by bringing our own libations for poolside consumption. :D

Seriously though, we still enjoy an afternoon cocktail poolside and both of us have always had to be present to purchase more than one drink at a time. Ditto the Tambu lounge--I went to the restroom upstairs and they wouldn't serve my husband my drink until I actually appeared at the bar to get it.

Yeah, it can be a pain--but a minor inconvenience to insure that only those of age are purchasing alcohol.
