Currently my parents have 250 points at SSR, they would like to add 50 points and the DVC rep told them it was best to add at SSR but I have a question. Why not buy 50 points at Animal Kingdom or the new property? Wouldn't that give you two places that you could book 11 months out?

Mike

Yes, it would. While I'm not a proponent of buying at several properties, I think owning at 2 is very do-able. Just remember that your 250 points will retain their SSR 11-month window and you'll only get the 11-month window at the new resort with the 50 points you buy there.

We own the bulk of our points at OKW and a small contract at HH and it works out very well.

Yes, it's true that you would then have two vacations to book at 11 months out. However, you can only book for the number of points which you have at that specific location. So....if you buy only a small amount of points you won't be able to book your whole vacation at the 11 months anyway. You bank and borrow to help that situation making it possible. Many owner buy at various locations and work with it very well. Hopefully they will come on the thread and explain how it works for them.

We have had similar discussions with our guide and that is how he explained it.

Remember, you can only book 11 months out with the points from that property. If you add 50 points to BLT or AKV, then you could book those 50 points at BLT or AKV 11 months out.

My opinion: If you have enough points at SSR for anything you think you might want to reserve 11 months out, then go ahead and add on at a different property. Figure out the most points you would use at SSR, taking banking and borrowing into consideration, then make your decision.

If you want to add on 50 points at AKV.....you can always go there every other year with banking/borrowing to make it a longer stay. I guess it depends on what type of room you get ... in determining how many nights you can stay. We have 300 points at SSR and just added on 100 points at AKV in Aug. We will probably love it when we stay there next July and want to add on more points. :rotfl: However....we can atleast stay 3 nights in a 2br non savanna room..... in the summer months without borrowing or if we want to stay longer then we just borrow or try and add on more days with our SSR points at the 7 month window.

Now I am understanding, we go as extended family and usually need all of the points they have to book what we need and may need more in the future as our families grow.

Yeah I think you need to look at your past trips to determine how many points you might need/ can afford. Will your vacations change soon? Will you go more often, stay longer, need more space? You could always buy 50 at AKV and then add on as you go if you love staying there. You can "grow" that new home so to speak. Good luck....addonitis is FUN. :thumbsup2

So, if I understand you correctly, you may need more points for your regular stays. In this case I'd suggest adding on at your home property. Since you will need all points to make one reservation you'll want them all to have the same home resort window.

If, on the other hand, you're looking for extra points to take extra trips then adding on at a second property would be fine.
