Buying a travel scooter-any reviews for Drive Phoenix scooters?

I was sold on Pride to go go Elite Traveller for a long time. It has a 275 pound weight capacity and is rated for 10 to 12 miles per charge. This 4 wheel scooter weighs about 111 pounds and goes for under $1200 on most internet sites.

The Drive Phoenix 4 wheel scooter has a weight capacity of 300 pounds and it's rated for 15 miles for a charge. You can place a second battery and stack it for a 30 mile range on this scooter. This scooter weighs 98 pounds. This scooter goes for $875 to $950 depending on the site. This sounds like a really good deal for the features. I'm reluntant on this brand; so, I'm looking for opinions, here.

This is for my husband who needs a minimum of a 275 capacity scooter.

I'm hoping some of you will chime in and give your reviews.

I can't give you advice on scooters, except if your husband weighs 275 pounds, he probably shouldn't choose a scooter with a 275 pound max weight capacity. You would want a little wiggle room.

It is quite similar to the Pride Go-Go. I don't have any experience with this scooter. I just looked at it online. There were a couple of things that I saw that was different from the Go-Go. The stackable batteries, the tiller handles, and the headlight.

While the stackable batteries and the headlight could come in handy. I know for myself, I don't have much need for either of those. The biggest drawback to me is the tiller handles. There is no way to alter your hand placement and still run it with that style of tiller. That to me would be the deal breaker. I like the fact that with a Delta style tiller, I can run it one handed, either hand, in various places. You can't do that I think with this style of tiller.

Is there someplace near you that sells these that you can go and try out before deciding? I think that would be the best bet.

I do like to be able to run a scooter one handed. If the Drive Phoenix doesn't have that capability that will convince me to go with Pride. I will try calling a few places to see if I can this answered on the phone. Around us I can't see the Drive model live.

I don't know anything about the scooter you are talking about, but I personally have a Pride GoGo Elite. In fact, this is my second one. I bought the first one(a Pride Go Go) second hand and while it was nice, my battery always ran out going around Epcot, so I carried a charger cord with me and learned where all the possible outlets were to recharge. What I bought my next one, I bought the Go Go Elite and have the oversized battery. The larger battery is heavier and cost more, but boy has it been wonderful. No more running out of battery no matter how long we stayed at Epcot. The scooter is extremely easy to drive and manuever anywhere. Just get the oversized battery and you shouldn't have any problems. The other scooter is probably fine, but I don't know anything about it,sorry.

We are an hour away from Indy, but I managed to find a scooter rental place there. It took about a week of my time to find a place. Some closer places have closed shop. Thank goodness Indy has conventions; because, it wasn't easy finding a place to rent scooters from our area. Since hubby needs a scooter only for travelling I changed my mind about buying one. I can get a month's rental for $200 and it's a four wheeler with a good weight capacity for him. We are travelling through a dozen states doing a fall tour of the east coast with it. Renting a scooter along the way would not have been easy; so, doing it from home was a must. We are visiting a lot of museums; so, I feel the scooter will be helpful. Our journey will include Atlantic City; so, I know he would need a scooter there.

The scooter we are renting is another model we were considering. It will help to try it out, now. It's not a Pride scooter. If it makes the trip without issue then I may choose that model to buy. We will be travelling a lot over the next two years and they will be driving trips.

It's easy to rent a scooter for Orlando, but not so easy anywhere else with the exception of major cities that do a lot of conventions. This is why I thought about buying one. I prefer renting right now. I'm grateful I found a place to do so.

Here is another scooter that you might be interested in and might work better for you.
