Buyer Beware (Joann's Free Shipping Club)

Just an FYI.

I noticed today that Joann's online is offering a Free Shipping Club promotion for 2008. My experience has been that Joann's doesn't always honor such promotions, and I wish that I'd been forewarned last year so I could take my business elsewhere since the Free Shipping Club offer was the main reason I chose to shop there at that time.

I qualified for, and had been very much looking forward to, being a member of the Free Shipping Club in 2007. Joann's never let me into the club despite acknowledging that I was fully qualified, assuring me that I would be admitted and could get the free shipping club offer, and even stating that many others who qualified were having trouble.

In the end, after a number of emails and a failed attempt to reach Joann's customer care by telephone, Joann's simply chose to ignore me. I never got to use the Free Shipping Club even one, single time. As a result, I have not spent and will not spend a single cent at either Joann's online site nor any of her brick-and-mortar stores unless and until she convinces me she cares about treating her customers right.

Long rant short, buyer beware regarding the new promotion. JMHO.

Won't be "suckered" again,

I am sorry to hear of your bad experience.

I racked up on their free shipping club last year and am already enjoying it this year.

I am glad to hear that Joann has honored the promotion for you in the past as well as this year. I wish I could say the same.

I can't figure out why she wouldn't honor it for me even though she knew I was qualified.

It should automaticaly come up in your cart you when have qualified and your purchase is over 10 dollars.

Yes, I know that's how it was supposed to work. Problem was, it never did, and several attempts on my part to get that corrected via customer care were unsuccessful. Frankly, customer care was quite unhelpful in a number of ways.

By her own admission, there were also many other qualified customers having the same difficulty getting admitted into Joann's Free Shipping Club as I was. I wonder if Joann just ended up choosing to ignore those customers' concerns as well? I never even received the courtesy of an apology.

At the end of the day, it's not the end of the world. I will (and have thus far) simply discontinue shopping with Joann.

Sorry to hear about your problem with Jo-Anns. I recently started working at one of the stores. I won't bore you with the details, but after a month, I've resigned. Next week will be my last week.

I did find it interesting that you referred to Jo-Ann as a she. During orientation they explained where the name for the store came from. It was originally just called the Cleveland Fabric store. When the expanded to other states, they changed the name. They had to come up with something quickly so the two couples who owned the business took the first names of their daughters and combined them. Their daughters were Joan and Ann. Just a bit of trivia.

I've been dying to know. Where does your dragon quote come from?
Are you still doing the boxes? I think I will need two in August if you are.

It actually came from a Monthy Python movie, but it is a takeoff of a quote by J.R.R. Tolkein "Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger".

Yes, I am still doing gift baskets. Please contact me if I can ever do anything for you.

For anyone who wants to know she made a awesome basket for the paramedics that took care of our son in '05. they sent us pics in with the thank you card. i would love to do it again some time. maybe next year to surprise my ds.

I totally remember making and delivering that basket. The guys at the station were thrilled when I took them the basket. I don't think that many people show their appreciation in such a nice way. You did good!
