This is misleading information. Disney cannot simply change the points like that. They can raise or lower points for specific times or room types. If they do this they must lower points some where else. In other words if they made weekdays and wekends the same points then they would have to lower the weekend price and add those points to the weekday amount. How someone doesn't know this is beyond me. Why would anyone buy into a program where the host could raise points at a whim? The total points allotted for each resort can never be changed. It is in your contract. If they add here they have to lower some where else. It always equals out.
Now to op. I will never stay at my home resort SSR. I've already booked 2 trips this year at the seven month window. I have a one bedroom at BCV May 1 and 7 nights in a Beach Cottage at VB Oct. 1. Yes I got the BC at 7 months without calling day by day. Booking at the seven month window only becomes an issue during the absolute peak times. Buy SSR and stay elsewhere. Buy resale somewhere if you get a good deal.

We have looked into buying into DVC (staying at HH in June to "check out" the DVC feel at RACK RATES! Yikes!). The suggestion above about buying 50 points here, 60 points there, at various resorts intrigues me. I'm assuming these could be bought re-sale at decent prices(lower $ per point), a little at a time, and would be easily purchased in cash, rather than financing $14,000 for SSR or others."


Don't let the idea intrigue you too much. Buying small contracts is not the way to go unless you are adding on IMHO. In order to take advantage of the 11 month booking window you must have enough points from that resort to cover your stay. For example if you bought 60 points resale at OKW, and you wanted to book from 8-11 months out you need to book a stay that takes less than 60 points. That is a pretty short stay in a studio. You can't pull points from another resort to make ressies at the 8-11 month window. The only way around this would be to travel every other year. Bank the 60 into next year and then you would have 120 to work with at the 11 month window. IMHO small contracts are best left as ad ons, not original purchases. You just don't have any "buying power" with those small guys. Also your assumption that they would be less money is off. The price per point may be a little lower but remember to add closing costs with resales. When the price per point goes too low Disney sometimes snags them with the ROFR. There are no "deals" to buy in. A decent investment will get you good vacations for years to come. Hope this helps before you jump into small contracts.

With all due respect, just because you never want to stay at SSR, doesn't mean that the OP won't want to stay there. I think telling her to buy at SSR but stay elswhere is your opinion, which is fine for sure, but it's not exactly advice.

I read this differently than you. I thought the poster meant the same thing you said. "Even out" the points. To me that means make weekends lower and add to weekdays. If the 7 day total is 280 then the cost per day would be 40 points. This would make it harder for those who currently stretch their points by staying Sun-Thurs. Those people would then be looking for an add-on.
