Buy parkhoppers and then upgrade to APs?

We're making our first trip to Disneyland on Wed., July 30 and leaving on Wed., Aug. 6. I know that's a fairly long trip but it's a combination vacation and business trip for a conference at the Convention Center. We will have two teenagers with us who are going back to Disneyland next March on spring break with their high school band. So it makes sense for us to buy APs because of the 7-day length of the first trip, and the girls going back next March. However, we will have a blackout day on Saturday, Aug. 2. So here is what I think I can do (based on all my reading on this board!): Buy 5-day park hopper passes that will be good from our arrival on July 30 to Sunday, Aug. 3. That means we will be able to get into the parks on Saturday, Aug. 2, a blackout day for the deluxe APs. But then we should be able to upgrade the parkhopper passes to APs on Sunday, right??? This makes me nervous, but it seems like the only way to get us into the parks on Saturday and yet not pay for more than the cost of the deluxe APs. First, will that work? Second, do you think it's ethical or is it taking advantage of the system? THANKS.

If you guys are going back in march for Spring Break won't those dates be blacked out too?

Good point. Check the calendar. You may want to get a premium AP. This helps with discounts and parking too may work out for ya.

It's absolutely NOT cheating the system. It IS the system! :)

In fact you could buy hoppers just to get you to that blocked out day, and when you upgrade on that day, as a courtesy, they let you stay (and you can hop, too) that day. :goodvibes

Since the APs will be dated back to the first day you used the hoppers, you can see that no one is taking advantage, really.

Once you check the calendar for March, if it happens that a Premium is needed for some or all, just add up the two sets of tickets you would need for the two trips, and you'll probably still see that it will be worth it, especially with the bigger food discounts and the merchandise discounts you get with the Premium.

I've checked March. Our spring break is really early (March 6) so the deluxe APs would still work. Thanks for the feedback!
