Buy Groceries vs. Let Concierge do it??

Hi all concierge vets! What is the scoop on this question??

Do you like stopping at the store on the way for a few things in a rental car or...do you give a list to Concierge to have there for you. We are wanting just things like wine, champagne, bourbon (anniversary, what can I say?). We don't need as much as we thought since we upgraded to WL concierge (YIPPEE!) that will have snacks and milk and coffee but please advise. Maxing out our time on a long weekend is seeming more important daily!

I also read about folks using shopping services. But what is the best way? Thanks all!!!!!

I've never stayed conciege, but I don't believe they will shop for you. I may be wrong though. I used wegoshop.com and had them deliver to us just last week. I don't know if they can purchase alcohol though, I don't think they can. Have a great trip.

If you want to pay Disney prices for the bottles of wine, etc. I am sure that concierge could order them for you. But, if you want to purchase them from a regular store at a regular price, I would purchase them myself. I may be wrong. I only stayed CL once at AKL and didn't ask for anything like this. Hopefully someone else who stays CL on a regular basis will help you out with this one.

They won't shop for you. However, there is more than enough food, drinks, wine and cordials, etc...available so that you shouldn't need much if anything. We had a few things in our room that we never touched. You will, I think, need to bring your own bourbon and champagne (maybe call WLC before your arrival to check). Poly Concierge did give us a bottle of champagne for our anniversary but we didn't ask for it. I wouldn't depend on it, though. One of the nice things about Concierge is you don't have to waste time or money on getting groceries, especially on a short trip. Enjoy! princess:

The concierge will take care of this for you, but at a very expensive price. Basically they just order it in advance from room service, so you are paying 2-3 times what it would cost in the grocery store, plus 18% gratuity, and a $3.00 service charge. They do not go "shopping" for you.

For example, unless you specify otherwise, you'll get the Fairy Tale Cuvee, an adequate but not great sparkling wine, which runs about $40. IMHO it's worth *maybe* $15. On top of the $40 will be the $3 service charge, 6% tax, and a $7 tip. That $40 bottle of champagne now costs about $53.

It sounds like you'd be better off spending 15 minutes in a grocery store on your way to the resort, or even just buying it yourself in the resort store.

We seldom buy wine when staying concierge, they offer adequate wines in the lounge each evening before dinner.

Pea-n-Me summed it up well. I want to add that I would NOT anticipate concierge brining a bottle of champagne. They very well might, but it doesn't always happen, so don't expect it and be pleasantly surprised if they do :)

Thanks all!!! Very helpful opinions from ya'll, just as I anticipated. I will scrap the wine and thus, the corkscrew. That is easier already.

So we'll stop for champange and bourbon at the Crossroads and then let the rest go. It is NOT like we plan on drinking primarily while there!!! But it would be fun to have what we want on the 7th floor, one way or another and enjoy the room/balcony/lounge area a bunch. Then if we get WDW champagne, all the better.

Last question...I think that I read there are no water bottles to grab and go @ WL concierge. Should we buy that too? Since we are finally going childless, I want to do the least amount of mom-type work and the MAXIMUM of on-the-go fun stuff so I'll scrap the water if advised.

You heard right--no water bottles. Might not be a bad idea to grab a 12 pack for the weekend.

ducklite, I was just wondering what happened to the water bottles? Has it changed that if you ask for them they will get them for you? It's been a while since we stayed Concierge, however we were booked at the WL Concierge last month (then changed to YC standard and ultimately had to leave because of Frances) and having the convenience of everything including water on a short trip was one of the reasons I booked it. What happened?

Thank you ducklite & Pea-n-Me for the input. Water will be easy to pick up as well. Amazingly, the memory was working and I was right that I had read that before. Being 45 is not all that bad after all!:smooth:

About eight months or so ago they "Standardized" certain things in all CL's, and doing away with water bottels is one of them. Now the water is in large glass bottles, nothing you can tote to a park.

With the water bottles, it is a god idea to bring one of your own from home or just buy one bottle before you go. You can use any liquid soap (yes, including shampoo) to clean it nightly in your room. And, concierge will let you refill it.
