Hi All,

Current resale member at the Poly and direct member at the GF.

I had my DVC sales consultant reach out to me over the last few days offering me full 2025 points for August Use Year (and no dues on them) and full 2026 points with prorated dues. I am looking at a 150 point Poly direct contract.

I guess I'm a bit surprised that 2025 points would be included in the contract with no dues on them either since we are now only about 7 weeks from expiration on them . And the $20 per point Magical Beginnings buyback would be applicable to the 2025 points as well.

Is this normal? I had always assumed if I were to buy more points direct, I would receive 2026 points that I could chose to use for the $20 per point Magical Beginnings but I would still owe the dues on them. I was a bit surprised that 2025 points would be part of the deal at this point and no dues on them either.

Yes it is normal. Unless a resort just opened and didn't have points available at all for the previous year.

It is an advantage that later use years can use to get their first 2 years of points and pay for much less than 1 year of dues.

If the resort was available for sale/use in the 2025 use year, then anyone buying before their 2026 use year starts gets 2025 points

It is somewhat surprising that a DVC guide is reaching out to you, making it sound as if it is something special or extra, but it is really just the normal way they operate.

But there are limits. For an Aug UY, I'm not sure if they'd offer the same deal if you sign a contract on July 31. I don't know exactly where the threshold is for getting points for the previous year.

Unless its a new resort, they are required to give you current UY points. So, Aug UY is entitled to 2025 points until it enters it 2026 UY....same with Sept, Oct, and Dec right now.

If you called on July 31st asking to add on, they have to give them to you unless they tell you they won't sell to you that day...

As long as you sign your contract before the new UY starts you receive the previous year points. The catch is that you need to make a separate phone call to Member Services to bank after the new points are loaded. So you could sign the morning of July 31 for an Aug UY and hope that there aren't any hiccups loading points and then calling MS to bank.

The latest I've purchased is the second to last day of my UY, and then called MS the next day (last day of UY) to bank.

To sell back your points using Magical Beginnings, reports say it requires a 4-5 day lead time before the end of your UY.

I have an August use year too and I want to see if there’s any good deals for the Welcome Home weeks starting July 22 so I plan to do the add on tool 7 days before then and try to lock into the current incentives and buy once I find out the new incentives. It sounds like there should be enough time to get the 2025 points and do the magical beginnings with them.

Thank you all, that's great to hear and thank you for confirming that's absolutely normal. Whenever I've looked at buying more direct, I always thought I would have to chose between getting current Use Year points and selling them back for Magical Beginnings, but being so close to August makes it possible to in a way 'double-dip'.

Thank you all for clarifying! :)

Wouldn’t they immediately expire though with the banking window already passed? Or will they let you late-bank them?

This is normal. When VGF first went on sale, that first year they only offered that year and forward - we purchased direct VGF and it was. the following year they offered the previous year and buyback of the previous year. I can't remember why that was not offered the first year at VGF

They allow late banking and the Home Resort Rules and Regulations actually include this as an option when adding on after the banking window has closed.
We just did this - added onto our August use year in May, called Member Services as soon as the points loaded and they banked the 2025 points to 2026 no problem

This is actually a very good deal. At $22 for a OTU point, the extra points represents about an 9-10% discount on a contract purchase (depending on the resort where you purchase). It's a large enough value that i'd say it would be foolish to buy without receiving these extra points--unless you're buying at a brand new resort at opening. And unlike OTU, these can be used at 11-months.

I joke that spring break next year is basically free bc I used our new 2025 points that we didn’t pay dues on plus prorated 2026 points to book
