Buy Delta now or wait for Southwest?

Ok...I've been checking flights periodically. I'm going next summer from July 5th til the 15th. I found flights from Boston to Orlando for this time period at $204 round trip total per person. This was a drop from the last time I checked and it was $210. Flying from hartford just keeps rising(from $230 to $265 since I started looking). I have heard that Southwest prices have been getting higher, but they won't be available for my dates for a while. Does anyone think that when the time comes Southwest could beat that deal? Or should I just buy Delta now and make sure I get that price?

Personally I'd wait. You're checking fares quite in advanced and I'm sure those fares are higher than you'll find six months out. I just booked my air for January Portland Oregon to MCO $254 including taxes.

When you start getting closer to your departure date use a service like farecast.com- they predict whether a flights fare will go up or down.

DEFINITELY WAIT!! I would recommend you book your ticket about 2-3 months in advance, statistically that's when the lowest fares are available. However if you see a great fare come up between now and then go ahead and buy it.

$204 is a pretty good rate from Boston if that's a direct flight. SW does run specials but if your travel dates are not flexible, you might not be able to get them. Check Jetblue also, I was looking at July 2010 the other day(we are going at the end of 7/10 and those rates are not out yet) and I think they were around $178-$198, depending on the day of the week you travel.

I would definitely wait for Southwest. Delta lures you in with low airfares and great flight times, but they are notorious for changing and canceling flights. I can't say enough bad things about Delta. I will NEVER fly them after the experience I had with their customer service people.

Southwest on the other hand: I can't say enough great things. Their customer service people will "turn themselves inside out" to help you. We have flights scheduled for the day after Thanksgiving. I have changed the flights and the airports four times as the air fares continue to go down. AND you don't have to pay for your luggage. That, to me, is BIG.

Don't get cold feet. You'll find the right air fare.

I finally booked AirTran for this November from BOS to MCO. I paid $79 each way plus the $6 seat charge. There was a direct flight for that price also, but the times did not work for me. Southwest never went below $119 each way. Plus it is a 45 minute ride, I would need to pay for parking etc. Logan I can get a ride in. Jet Blue never fell below $149 down and $89 back. Just remember your going to pay higher taxes and fees flying out of Logan - so take that into consideration also. My total for 4 tickets ended up being $809.
