button embellishments

I am new to some of the embellisments out today. Could someone please enlighten me on the use of buttons and are these regular old buttons or are they special buttons to be used in scrapping etc and if so where are they located in the scrapping stores. thanks to everyone that can help shed some light for me.

They do sell buttons that coordinated with Bazzill cardstock, but I usually just buy a button grab bag at Joann's for a few bucks and then I can pick whatever out of there. I don't know if there is such a thing as acid-free buttons...

thank you so much. i think i'll go out and purchase some buttons. sounds fun.
