But what are the glowsticks FOR??

well, the main reason I want them is so I can quickly hand one to my son in a dark ride if he starts to freak out!!! :rotfl2: But I bet they are cool to have at the parades at night, etc... :flower:

I never bought any, but I think some use them as a "night light" in dark rides?

I do see kids holding them when the lights go out for the late parade.

My kids wore them during the fireworks shows, it was SUPPOSED to keep them from wanting the expensive light up toys they sell during the fireworks but of course we got one of those too

:rotfl: I can see that happening.... :rotfl:

I'm packing mini bubbles for daytime, glowsticks for nighttime. They may entertain DS8 at parades, fireworks and waiting in lines, but will most likely be used to distract/pacify someone else's cranky kids who I'm stuck beside! :rotfl2:

OMG this is exactly what I used it for :rotfl:. I am not kidding- we were waiting for spectromagic and it was raining and really really hot. There was this little girl (she's 3) who was starting to have a meltdown next to me (the its two hours past my bedtime and I have been at the MK alll day one) so I started talking to her (hi Jayce!). She was shy at first but she warmed up to me (I love little kids). I gave her a glowstick and the two of us played with it for 40 minutes while we waited for the parade. She was one cute kid and her mom was very very very very very (get the point) grateful. I got a hug right before the parade  . It could have been a very long 40 minutes. :earboy2:

We always get a bulk order, and DD loves to make friends with some kids around us at fireworks by sharing with them. Since she is an only child, it lets her have fun with other kids while spreading Pixie Dust :wizard: around. We always get lots of thanks and make some friends!

...these can make whining kids stop on a dime and stop crying. Personal experience from last trip made me bring more with us each night.

The girls would have fun "cracking" them open to start the glowing, and then they could wear several around their necks which they would toss around and give away to their new friends.

I connected some together to make big loops that I wrapped around the handle of our stroller and that made it easy to spot.

But by far the biggest benefit was calming down other kids who were tired and cranky. We were always sure to give a look to the parents to make sure it was ok before offering one, and several times the parents were so happy they wanted to pay us for them.

(If you have connectors for the necklaces or bracelets put these on ahead of time. They are hard to keep track of.)

Makes me wish I had gotten more off ebay instead of just a few from the Dollar Spot at Target. Oh well live and learn :)

We've always packed various light up toys for our DD. Recently I went to Dollar Tree and they had 2 light up necklaces & 2 bracelets for $1. They also had a neat battery operated light toy. Dollar Tree is one of those places where everything actually is $1. They even had ponchos 2 for $1. Dollar Tree is my new favorite store. :sad2:

What's the best deal for online glow stick purchases? Seems like some really gouge on shipping.

Share your deals!!

I guess that of all the terrific advice I've received here on the DIS, "bring glowsticks with you" was the one piece of lame advice. I bought a bunch of them on eBay and brought them with me. When I surprised the kids with them, they thought they were cool...UNTIL they saw all the light up toys they were selling at WDW. Bless their hearts, they didn't ask for any of the light up toys, but I think I would have come out about the same if I had bought three of the cool light up toys instead of a bunch of glow sticks on eBay.

thanks! on my way to dollar tree (one just opened up) for glow sticks and I will buy lots of extras. any other trinkets work well?

They seem to ease the tension for little ones on dark rides. They are much more friendly to the passengers around you than a flashlight. The dull green (or whichever color) glow pretty much blends in. Whereas a mini flashlight is much more harsh.

Just be sure the age is appropriate for the kid using the glow stick. We were camping 2 summers ago. The little girl (I'd guess 3-4 yrs old) at the camp site next to us bit through one. She had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. When the family eventually returned-- the little girl had been admitted for burns to her face and mouth as well as chemical poisioning. I don't know what the outcome was or anything, but it was very scary.

Don't pay a lot for them. In fact, I would check your local party store before buying them online. Our party city has the necklaces and other light up toys. We've always bought light up toys that are similar to what is sold at Disney for a lot cheaper. KB Toys sometimes has some of the spinning light toys as well.

Big beaded necklaces, like they throw at Mardi Gras. The brighter the color the better. Kids love 'em
