But Rhett! Where Shall I Go? What Shall I do? Frankly, m'dear... a MAY 2010 PTR

For a while there I was getting really hungry reading all the reviews, especially when I saw the words Dole Whip on my screen! :cloud9:

Then warm PB was mention and ruined it.

:rotfl2:

Last Jan I stopped for a moment while walking back from Old Port Royale with my cup of tea just to take in the beauty of it all as the sun was just starting to come over the horizon. DH and the kids were walking with me and I just remember how truly content I was at that moment. No picture to share other than the one that's permanently stuck in my head. And that's the only one I need.

Aw, another wonderful CBR memory. :cloud9: Now I am thinking I should just can this whole deluxe idea and go back to CBR! :goodvibes:rotfl:

Your ticker has moved quite a bit in a week. Mind you it feels like I was gone 3 weeks ! Gotta love that kind of vacation!

I know, I was just thinking that it is moving so fast already that one of these days the dang thing is going to stop and be stuck for months. :scared:

Hey - where's that TR anyway??? :rolleyes1

I am so the same way- it doesn't matter what the PB is- just give it to me. I find sheer contentment and joy in a Reeses's peanut butter cup- esp if it's a bit melty.:cloud9:

Awww- thanks--:goodvibes I'm positive Mickey is missing me.:rotfl2:

Sorry we ruined your dole whip mement with the warm PB talk.:laughing:

I tell ya what-- there is certainly something about CBR that causes people to see how happy they are.:cloud9: Thanks for sharing your special moment with us. I know that feeling, but I never take the time to really let is soak in while I'm at WDW. Hoping to remedy that this next time around.

Glad you're back safe and sound!

jo
This was the first trip I took the time to relax and let it all soak in. I hope May is just as wonderful for you!

I keep my Reese's cups in the freezer. ;)

Drakes- I hope you do a TR!!!! :goodvibes Peer pressure!

Hey - where's that TR anyway??? :rolleyes1

Maybe I can start tonight

Noo - you need to stay at BWI so you can come back and share your experiences there with all of us!! I love reading your resort reviews. Please, please do one for BWI :worship:

Yep...I'm "patiently" waiting on that TR too...;)

Ooh- when you get back- tell us what you ate at Raglan road! I'm very interested...popcorn::DH has eaten at Bongos with coworkers when they went for a sales mtg--- he hated it as well- said it was really truly gross, but I've never been. Thanks for your opinion of it- you're the only other person that's I've heard of that's eaten there.

Okay - I finally have a few minutes on my lunch to catch up with my dining experiences, including Raglan Road! :thumbsup2

DHS

Don't really remember my CS restaurants...in fact, don't think I've done CS here in my last two trips! Guess that says something about CS at DHS... :rolleyes1

I did have a late lunch in October at 50's Prime Time Cafe. I really liked it. It was my first TS that trip, and it was my birthday, so I got some great interaction. My "extended family" sang to me, and my friend didn't eat her tomatoe off her sandwich (even though I warned her what would happen), and sure enough - got it fed to her on a fork airplane. When I told my brother about it he said he wanted to eat there the next time we went.

My next trip I think I would like to try Sci-Fi Dine-In. It just seems like such a cool idea. I also think my brother would like it so it's definitely on my short-list for whenever I go back. Mama Melrose is also on that list, but a little further down...

AK

Again, limited dining experiences here. Only CS was that one near Dinosaur, which was your standard burger and fries fare. We ate outside which was nice, and my brother wrote about his first experience on EE (on which we got stuck inside the mountain for a few minutes - right when you stop to switch from backwards to forwards motion again) for his homework assignment. He needed my help since he had to write about it in French.

We ate at Tusker House for dinner. I really enjoyed, and all of my family did go back for seconds. Yep - it's a buffet so I bet Jo won't be eating there :goodvibes We also ate at RFC on a previous trip - had a similar experience as others have been describing. On that trip though I was 22 and bro was 5, so the server assumed he was my son, which made my mother crack up until I reminded her that that made her Grandma :lmao:

I've been hearing good things about Yak and Yeti though, so I will try there eventually. Just not likely on my next trip since little bro is not too into Chinese.

DTD

Ate at McDonalds - expensive for Mickey D's, but how can you go wrong there!

I had dinner there at Cap'n Jacks with my bro the night I sent my parents off for their Valentine's dinner at Chefs de France. He was happy to see the hot dog on the menu too! I had the crab cakes and thought they were good. I don't remember there being a musty smell, but I may have been anticipating it knowing it was on the water. I lived a couple of years in Vancouver, and a lot of the restaurants on the water there have a "seaside" smell to them so I knew what to expect.

We also ate a Planet Hollywood - but everyone knows what you're getting there.

Raglan Road - it was very good! I had the fish and chips, and they were excellent. The presentation was cool - the fish was on the plate, but there was a stand on it for the chips, which were sitting in a cone made of newspaper and the stand was designed to support it. I hope you can picture it because I didn't even think of taking pics of food. For my next trip I'll know better! We were there around 6:00 I think. I would recommend going later if you can swing it, since I think it would be a really cool place to grab dinner around 8:00, then hang out afterwards for some pints at the pub! :thumbsup2

T-Rex is on my list of places to try. If I do get FD I know it's not on DDP, but I would plan either a Signature (thinking Hoop-dee-doo Revue - any thoughts anyone?) or have a TS breakfast and supper one day. Bongo's has also been on my list - but apparently it's not so good? That's too bad...

Phew - caught up with you on the dining experiences/reviews...now I just have to get my memories done :cool1:

Pluff Mud - I think I need to take a trip to smell that!

Glad I wasn't the only one smelling the smell at Cap N Jacks. We call it "the smell of England" Wet, damp and moldy! Please don't flame me for saying that, my Grannie lives there and the smell reminds me of her...even if it gives me a sinus infection.

I love PB warm as well, we try to find as many baked good recipes that call for PB and make them and eat them warm - that's when they are the best. However I also like a good peanut butter cup fresh from the fridge as well.

I did get my photos downloaded to the computer last night, I think rather than sort them I'll just upload the ones I'll use in my TR and sort later? :confused3 I am new to photobucket as well - I am a complete newbie with TR writing! I want to know how to do hyperlinks etc.

Maybe I can start tonight

Oooh, witing patiently for the TR!! You are more than welcome to post your TR link here in this PTR. That goes for all of my readers!:goodvibes

Peanut Butter cups int he fridge.... no no no. You're like my DH- he wants every dessert/sweet cold-- cookies in the freezer, peppermint patties in there too. I'm the only person I know that microwaves her ice cream.:)

Your ticker has moved quite a bit in a week. Mind you it feels like I was gone 3 weeks ! Gotta love that kind of vacation!
YaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaY for mooooooooooooooooving tickers!!!!!:woohoo:

UM............ NO?????????????? Don't you remember that convo we had just recently????? Am I gonna be the one to pull YOU through now? You're not close enough to your trip to have cold feet yet. It's all about ME right now.

oooh- WL. If I ever go in the winter again (we've done Christmas twice)--- WL is where it's at!!!!!!:cloud9: That fireplace is nothing but wonderful. Sigh.

Wow- thanks for taking the time to share all of those reviews with us!

Funny about RFC and your mom being the Grandma- I bet she thought it was funny. It made me laugh.

Raglan road sound like a lot of fun- and yep- I know what you're talking about with the little cone thing-y's. That's cute. I think I might like to try it- I jsut need to peruse the menu more.

HDDR- I've never been but I'm sure that there are others here that have been. It sounds like a cute thing and your Bro might like it.

You're right about Tusker House--- I won't eat it.:) Glad dyou enjoyed it though- I have heard really good things about it from a lot of people.

Thanks for your opinions! :goodvibes

Jo

I finally got back to catch up on your PTR and to no surprise I had 9 pages of food and eating to read!!!! :rotfl::rotfl::lmao::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I am happy to see some things never change with my DIS girls.

So-- last on our list of dining reviews before I tell you where we've decided to eat are the Resort Restaurants.

We never spend a lot of time at the resorts- always too busy in the parks, but we have visted a couple of places.

I'll start with:

ALL STAR MUSIC-
Intermission-- this was only a "grab a muffin" place on a trip we made that was more or less last minute one year. Also had the coffee in the refillable mug- of course. (Nescafe) I never even darkened the door to this establishment so I can't tell you anything about it. I sent Mark to get stuff for me while I was getting ready for the day.:)

CARIBBEAN BEACH-
Old Port Royale - Another morning muffin and coffee (nescafe) stop. The kids each had a Chocolate chip muffin the size of their heads and chocolate milk. I had a blueberry muffin. The kids couldn't eat all of their muffins so we threw a lot of it away. Sharing is a good thing here. We never tried anything else-- it is always busy and it's often hard to find a table.

CONTEMPORARY-
California Grill - This gets my vote for favorite restaurant in WDW. We ate here May 2007. Used the DDP and 2 credits each. Started out with the cheese flatbread, DH had the Yoshie's Deluxe Sushi Platter and said it was the best he's ever had. Then we had Caesar salads, and then Oak-fired Filet of Beef (best steak on property we've had). As soon as we ordered dessert and it arrived, (I don't remember what it was- I think I had Creme brulee b/c that's what I always get everywhere and DH probably got a chocolate something) Wishes began and they lowered the lights and piped in the music.
It was Mother's Day and it was wonderful. Best place I've eaten on site by far.

POLYNESIAN-
Captain Cook's Snack Company - Dole Whips for everyone!!

Kona Cafe -- with all of the great things I'd heard about this place, I was unfortunately disappointed in it. We had dinner here in 2007 on the DP as well. The Sticky Wings were the best thing on the menu- they were really good. The crab cakes were not that great IMO, I ordered the Teriyaki-style New York Strip -- it was burnt to a crisp on the outside. I mean hard, black nasty burnt. Couldn't even be called "Pittsburgh style" b/c it wasn't rare on the inside. :) Dh had the Pan Asian noodles with shrimp and he did enjoy it some. Not his favorite ever. The dessert I don't even remember.
I will say that I would like to try this restaurant again b/c every place has a bad day and I'd like to give it the benefit of the doubt.:goodvibes

POP CENTURY-
Everything Pop - Coffee only and again I never went into this place- DH went for me. I don't even know where the food court is here.:rotfl2:

Port Orleans French Quarter-
Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory-- Coffee again, only I got it for myself most mornings.:goodvibes Never even had a beignet, if you can believe it. Didn't have an actual meal here either. Neat atmosphere, though!:goodvibes Never crowded too much b/c the hotel itself is so small. (It's my favorite with CBR a close second, but we'll see how we feel after the Poly stay.)

WILDNERNESS LODGE-
Whispering Canyon Cafe - Dinner two different times. The first time was with a group of adult friends from South Carolina we had met up with while there. (The kids weren't on that trip with us). DH and I ordered the Skillet and we thought it was okay. Our waiter was a riot, and kept telling my friend she had better get ready b/c "You gonna ride that pony, Blondie". It was very funny b/c she is a very proper, Southern girl and to have this Latin guy in broken English telling her she was gonna ride the pony was too much.
So the next time, when we brought the kids back with us, I made an ADR. We ordered the Whiskey Maple-Glazed Trout and we thought it was better than the skillet.
My kids, however, didn't appreciate the humor and my DD thought it was the worst thing to ever happen to her. She just didn't understand why those people were acting that way.
I pretty much think our WCC dining days are over.:upsidedow

And that's it- all of the resorts, parks, DTD, and the Boardwalk dining reviews of places we've eaten in the past.

So, where does that leave us for this MAY trip?
Where will we eat?
Will be play it safe and go to all of the same old places?
Will we get brave and line up for a buffet???? (I'm guessing "no" to that one.;))
Will we be adventurous and willing to try new places?

Stay tuned and you shall see!popcorn::

 Yes, I remember it quite clearly. It's just hard when I look at the price difference . And when DS10 asks everyday why we can't stay at CBR next time! And I know DH would be thrilled with CBR again too. BUT -- I am sticking to my deluxe!! :thumbsup2 After all it would be a shame to let a good 40% off pin code go to waste, wouldn't it?! :rotfl:

Okay, Resort Dining. . . We've done lots!

Caribbean Beach Resort -- Old Port Royale Food Court - Always a great experience! Never crowded, lots of choices, friendly CM's, and good food!

Port Orleans French Quarter -- Sassagoula Floatworks Food Court - Food was good, there's just not a lot of selection, it's very small - like the whole resort!

Coronado Springs -- Pepper Market Food Court -- YUCK - Never again! The food was okay, but what a hassle and the CM's were so very rude.

Port Orleans Riverside -- Riverside Mill Food Court - Great food court. Never crowded, lots of choices, and very good food!

Old Key West -- Good's To Go - Average food. Nice CM's. Limited selection.

Old Key West -- Olivia's Cafe - A great experience. Excellent food and service. We were pleasantly surprised here!

Contemporary -- Chef Mickey's - Always a fun time. It's an average buffet as far as the food goes. The characters are great!

Beach Club -- Cape May - Went there once for breakfast. The food was average. The characters were fun. Our waitress was not great, kind of turned us off from the place.

Grand Floridian -- 1900 Park Fare - We thought the food on the buffet wasn't very good. Just okay. The character interaction was priceless!

Polynesian -- Ohana - Went there once for breakfast. The food was good and the characters were great. Definitely a fun place

Polynesian -- Kona Cafe -- Went there once for breakfast and it was great! It's already on our list for next time!

Wilderness Lodge -- Whispering Canyon Cafe - What an experience. It's sure a wild place. No place to be when you have a migraine that's for sure. We thought the food was very nasty. The kids loved the whole crazy experience though!

Wow, I think that's it! :faint: We sure do a lot of resort dining!

I haven't done much resort dining besides Chef Mickey's for breakfast, Ohana for breakfast, and CBR for B,L & D. Perhaps my next trip I'll expand my list. ;)

Is your DH going to be okay with not staying at CBR next time??? ;)

If he had his pick without considering cost it would be WL believe it or not. He actually asked what the price difference would be if we chose it for this last trip. I had to pick his jaw up off the floor once I told him. CBR is our favorite in our budget range. ;) I think we are both ready to try something new next time though.

I never weighed in on the DTD choices - I only have EoS and WPE to comment - both were great!

Resort dining
Chef Mickey's - loved it. Standard buffet, great characters. Pretty noisy.
Contempo Cafe (Contemporary) - okay. You use kiosks to order. I had a salad that was nothing special - just ok.

Ohana - breakfast. YUMMY food - family style. Fun characters - Lilo, Stitch, Mickey and Pluto
Kona - lunch - WOW!! We had a great time, the food was terrific! Get the sticky wings!

1900 Park Fare - we had dinner there. Food was pretty good. Strawberry soup was great! Fun characters - the stepsisters were a riot!

Wilderness Lodge - Roaring Forks (I think - CS place) Yummy BBQ pork flatbread. MAGIC COOKIE BARS!!! We went during an off time (4 p.m.) and there was no one there.
CBR - food court - good food, lots of choices but not all windows are open at off times.

Can't think of any others off the top of my head. We've really rarely had a bad food experience - luckily!

I wasn't surprised at all. Maybe that's why I found it so funny.
Jo- I will give my 2 cents on our food experiences for what it is worth.

It will take some time, so I will do it when I get the chance to sit down and think about it for a while.

:)

Deluxe! 2010!!!!!!!!!!

:lmao:

It would be an utter shame to let that code die a painful death.

Food!!! Is that all you can think and talk about? LOL!
Oh yeah, right, Sea, like we have nothing better to talk about.:rolleyes1
Sooooooo- have you done a WFL update today???popcorn::

We aren't big breakfast eaters-- so we've never done many breakfasts. Did you like 'ohana?

WL--- while I think the resort is beautiful- the only problem I have with it is that the rooms are as big as CBR's and cost so much more. What a pain that is. I'd bite the bullet though- it's so beautiful- esp at night!:lovestruc Hope yoou get to stay there next time!

BBQ pork flatbread- I was wondering what that was like. I might have to try it one day!!!:) Maybe next time.

You are lucky to not have any bad experiences so far.:goodvibes

Thanks for your opinions!:)

I knew I could count on you to chime in on all of your resort experiences.:goodvibes You have eaten at a lot of places-- lucky thing.

Okay- so I have a question- I know you think that the CP is probably the best buffet in WDW- which is the worst you've eaten at?

I still can't believe we were at POFQ at the same time and never saw one another as small as that place was.

You've definitely made me want to go to Olivia's. Maybe one day.:goodvibes

OPR-- when I went in there it was so crowded we had to wait for a table.:rotfl2: But that was that October where EVERYWHERE was very crowded. Or maybe I just went at the most popular time.

Thanks for your awesome review!

Just got caught up on your dinning reviewspopcorn::

Here's my resort dinning:

Grand Floridian Cafe--good food, but all "normal" items and I wouldn't go there again unless I was staying there again

Kona Cafe--same as above, good but wouldn't do it again expect for a quick lunch or something

Ohana's--one of my favorite restaurants in WDW:goodvibes

Chef Mickey's--atmosphere is great but the food dissapointed me the last few times

California Grill--loved the view, but i haven't been back since 2003 because the food was not worth the price, it was good, nut nothing outstanding for the price paid

Trail's End--good food, but nothing I'd go to when not staying at FW

Cape May Cafe--great good, I love the clambake at night

Yachstman-- I don't really like how the restaurant is layed out but the food is great

Boma--loved it:lovestruc

Shula's Steakhouse--best steak I have ever had, our new must go to every trip

Whispering Canyon---great atmosphere, but the food wasn't really my style so I didn't enjoy it

Olivia's Cafe--decent food but wouldn't go to eat there again unless I stayed at OKW

Oh, I forgot about Mara at AK - great CS! Good choices and ZEBRA DOMES are FABULOUS!!! I wouldn't make a trip for that (especially with Boma and Jiko there), but if you're staying there, it's good.
