So with the new GCV going up, I'm wondering how impossible it will be to get into them.
Are there comparably busy times at DL like there are at WDW. I'm sure holidays and school breaks witll be busy, but what about the rest of the year?
Also how much is weather a consideration there? I've never been to CA, but I'm assuming southern CA is warm most of the time.

Just wondering if we ever have a remote shot of staying there not being owners.

With the news that there will only be 50 two bedroom units for DVC at the Grand Californian (could possibly be split into one bedroom/studio so 100 units max) I would say the possibility of reserving at the 7 month mark will be slim to none. I know I am not counting on it and we love our GC stays - have stayed there several times on points now.

CarolAnnC is right, GC Villas will be a tough ticket to get. To answer your other questions, Crowds follow the same general trends as you see in WDW. Christmas and Easter, and Summer are all very busy. Off season is nice and generally uncrowded. The biggest difference is that Weekends all year long are crowded based on a very large local passholder population (over 500,000!)

Weather is almost always nice since there is very low humidity. Winter nights rarely drop below freezing, and days generally warm up into the 70's. Summer Temps are warm, but with low humidity the heat index is generally low.

The DLR resort hotels also get significant convention business that really does not always impact the parks. For this reason, Friday night is often the first to sell out as conventioneers are extending their stay and tourist are arriving for the weekend.

I agree that booking as a non-owner will be challenging at any time of the year.

What makes it difficult to answer your specific question is the fact that they haven't released a point schedule yet. As we know, DVC busy times (hard to book) are not always the same as the WDW/DL busy times. It will be interesting to see if they keep the same seasons and point differentials as they have at the WDW resorts.
