I have not been to DL since I was less than 10 pixiedust:

Thinking of starting and ending a business trip I have to make to San Diego at DL

Mapblast shows easy drive from DL to San Diego

Would be arriving on a Friday at DL and then going to SD on Sunday for a conference and then back to DL on Wednesday and then back home on Thursday

Thinking of renting a car as well to do the drive back and forth

Wondering what is the closest airport to DL and if the above sounds reasonable or if it sounds like a hastle

It will be just be me as DW and the kids will be at home at work and school

Thanks in advance

My reading tells me that the Orange County/John Wayne airport is the closest to DL (11 miles?) I think Long Beach was the next closest at 13 miles. LAX I believe is 35 miles away from DL, but considering traffic could be several hours driving.

Saturday is the busiest day in the park, and depending on when your trip is, could be very crowded, so take that into consideration. Still, it's DISNEYLAND!!! :teeth:

Thanks for the quick response

Orange County is the name of the airport I was looking for - that LAX at 35 miles seems kinda far in LA traffic

Definitely rent the car. You'll need it to get around SoCal. Driving to San Diego from Anaheim on a Sunday won't be that bad...there's usually more traffic going the other way on Sundays (from SD to LA). It'll take you about an hour and a half to two hours. Driving up to Anaheim from SD on Wednesday won't be that bad either, depending on what time of day you're heading up there. If you go in the AM, you'll catch the morning commute on Interstate 5, but taking advantage of the carpool lanes on the freeway will help you.

The closest airport is the John Wayne Airport (http://www.ocair.com/). If you can find a flight out from here, it's your best bet.

Have a great time! :)

Thanks so far

The trip would be in early June - is there anything I should be thinking about re crowds at DL that time of year?

I would be arriving mid day on the Friday, heading to SD Sunday afternoon and then back up Wednesday in the late afternoon/early evening

Also, when I went to check on awards tickets - they have a route of me flying from SNA (John Wayne Airport) to LAX which seems kind of weird to me

Cheers

a lot of flights around socal will have you go through lax. I agree it's a little weird, but I think if you were to drive to DL from lax, it would irritate you more than anything. LOL

go for it, I think it's entirely doable! :)

Hey Neighbour,

Since you're probably flying out of Pearson, as far as I know you can only fly into LAX or San Diego International. We can't fly directly into the smaller airports. I think the smaller airports only handle American traffic.

It would still probably be faster to fly into LAX and rent a car from there ... unless you like to hang out in airports :goodvibes

Gee, this is right up my alley with planning. I'm doing something similar in January for our 25th wedding anniversary. We're flying into LAX from Atlanta (direct flight and cheaper than John Wayne). Renting a car and driving down the coast to San Diego for four days. Then back up to Anaheim and Disneyland for the next four days. Back home after that. Traffic doesn't bother us. We get that on a daily basis here. The size of LAX doesn't bother us - Hartsfield-Jackson here is the busiest in the world.

The drive between LA and San Diego doesn't seem to be that bad. I'd love to hear your experience with everything. I'm driving myself crazy with planning this trip so would appreciate any advice from someone who has done something the same!

Thanks for all the replies and tip of the hat to my fellow diser in Markham

I am torn between the LAX and SNA approach - you are right about no directs out of YYZ to SNA - have to go through Chicago or Denver or San Fran (other routes as well) - Expedia had me going to Newark first :rotfl: (darn computers)

cheers

Funny, me and a friend just drove out to San Diego to take a break from the DL corwds this week. It only took an hour and twenty mins of drive time without traffic. It was great seeing San Diego for the first time.
