That said, we now have U.N. Inspectors back in place. They can and will ferret out any possible WMD which he has. If our aim is to DISARM him, then there's a mechanism in place now to do so. Why do we have to start shedding American and Iraqi blood IF we can accomplish disarming him WITHOUT WAR??????

Answer: Killer George wants Saddam.................KILLED. If our troops, and innocent Iraqis are lost in the process, Bush will sleep just fine

I don't want a war anymore than you do, but I don't see how the scenario you have provided could ever possibly come to be - given the dictator that we're dealing with.. Based on his past activities, I honestly believe that he has the capabilities of hiding his hideous weapons of destruction (be that bombs, gases, viruses, or whatever) where they can't and WON'T be found.. I guess that's where your view point and mine differs..

I will certainly pray for no war - but based on Saddam Hussein's past history - and lack of credibility - I hold out very little hope that it can be avoided..

C. ANN, prior to their forced departure from IRAQ in 1998, the U.N. Inspectors found TONS of biological and strategic weapons WHICH THEY DESTROYED. We didn't go around brandishing threat of annihilation then; of course, killer George wasn't the President.

I was WITH the Bush Administration AND the U.N. in stating that Saddam would face WAR if he refused to let the inspectors back in. However, they're back on the ground there NOW. Do I think that Saddam is hiding WMD???? Definitely. However, they can be found and extracted without the need for us to kill innocent Iraqi women and children in the inevitable "collateral damage" of WAR.

Bush doesn't simply wish to disarm IRAQ ; he wishes to KILL. I'm sorry that Mackey does not wish to accept/hear the truth, but it's there for all to see. When the killing starts, it will be because BUSH must quench his bloodthirst ...........

I'm sure that I am not the only one here to have family in the military. My baby brother (age 45!!) just retired after 25 yrs. in the Navy. He has already been in the Gulf. I, like most of you, hate the idea of a war of any kind. But, ask any person in the military what they think. They back our president to the hilt. Is it a nasty job. Oh yeah. But, sometimes it is just what has to be done. I also, hate having to live in the country that always ends up defending the 'whole' world. But, it may just be a responsibilty that grows out of our greatness. Isn't it wonderful that we don't live in a dictatorship so we can have these varied opinions and not worry about being shot at dawn?? And while I'm at it...if any of you out there are active military and facing going off to 'do your jobs', well, let me thank you. We live the way we do, because of what you all do. Bless you.

This battle or war is not going to be in the open field as was the last campaign. Many of the reasons for the delays on moving are to be sure our troops are properly prepaired for such a "urban campaign" It is well documented that Hussain will not make the mistake of confronting the US/collation forces again in the open field. All can rememeber his troops surrending in record numbers once faced with force. He is bunkering his troops and defenses around Bagdad. He has no problem using civilians as human shieds, he has before and will again. When that does not work he can paint up some babyfood factory signs and place them around his weapons depoits after they are destroyed.

Ah EROS, good to see that the new year hasn't mellowed you at all...

We've been over this a dozen or more times, but I'm game if you are. Inspections cannon and will not find *all* of the weapons. If Hussein stays in power, he will whip out the WMD as soon as the inspectors are gone, and we'll have to play this whole farce out again.

Personally, I think that 11 years is plenty of time to have given him to comply. He has refused. Given that the the Gulf War cease-fire called for him to destory all weapons and submit to inspections, we are actually 4 years overdue in forcing him to comply.

EROS, maybe people who were against the war would post with you if you didn't lump people into groups and call them names? I know I would, but as it is, I don't see fellow community members as "cannibals" or some of the other names you call DIS members.

I also feel for members of the DIS community when you go on about the loss of life, whether it be our own soilders or those of the people of Iraq. We all know war means death and destruction. There are people on these boards who have sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, nephew, nieces, husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, grandchildren etc. who will see action in the Gulf. It's stressful enough knowing that they may be in danger of losing their life or they may take the life of someone else, without being constantly reminded about it in the blood thirsty way YOU describe what might happen.
