Bus wait times on MDE - accuracy?

I’ve found them fairly accurate. Every now and then one will keep changing significantly, but overall it’s been very helpful.

You can only see the bus wait times from your Disney resort to the parks, not the other way around.

It’s also not location based - meaning if you’re a guest a Poly but find yourself at the BWI bus station, you won’t be able to see the BWI bus info on the app. Only your registered resort will show up in the app.

I wish they’d make the times for all resorts available! But I guess they want to discourage people from using buses other than their own resort.

During the middle of the day before the big rush of people leaving the parks, do most of the buses just loop between a given park and resort? i.e., could I look at the park arrival time from my resort and assume that the same bus will leave from the park back to the resort shortly thereafter?

No, never assume this. Ever. No matter what time of day. You will have no way to know one way or the other.

In my super anecdotal experience I haven’t found that this seems to be the case. I’ve sometimes waited a long time for buses from AK to AKL and in theory they should loop fairly quickly (although I realize there can be delays).

I've very confused by your post. Does that not indicate it's likely NOT a looping bus? As you say, a looping bus would be quicker, not longer.
At any rate, my point is you, the guest has no way to know just by looking at a bus wait time. Some buses loop, some don't. There's no alert or way to know what the bus you are looking at is doing.

I found the times on the app to be accurate. However the times were frequently listed as "not available," especially to parks other than MK. I don't have an explanation for this.

Last week at the POP, the times were pretty accurate. One night at park closing at the MK, we were the last on the bus so we stood up front. I talked to the driver the whole way back to the POP.....that dude really loved his job! I told my fiance that I wished I loved my job like he loves his.

having the bus times available on the app is handy for deciding when we leave the room.
I like having the times posted at the resort bus stop (not all resorts do this yet, I believe). I wish they had times posted at the parks as well. It would be nice to know if a bus will be there soon or if we just missed it. Not that it changes anything, but nice to know what the wait time is.

If that's what then meant, PP was wrong about it being for other resorts. It's not

Sorry I wasn't clear on that, it is only at your own resort. I meant you can see it when you are at WDW, not looking at the app from home.

Oops, I misread your post. You are only able to see bus times at the resort where you are staying, no others.

May 2019, AKL the times were generally accurate but off just enough to be of limited value. Time kept changing, getting later a minute, then a few minutes later another minute then a third. Bus came, and left 2 minutes before the original time. Several times no time was listed. Bus came but never appeared on the app.
