Bus wait time with ECV/Scooter? MK by Car?

I’m going to WDW at the end of May. I have arthritis in my right knee and I use a scooter. We’ll be staying at Boardwalk so I’ll be able to scoot to 2 parks. I’ve heard that people with mobility devices have to wait a long time for a bus and longer than other people. Have you found that to be true? Also, we will probably rent a car so we can drive to AK and MK with the scooter in the trunk, but I am afraid that I’ll miss the early opening for resort guests if I arrive by car. Do people on buses have that much of an advantage at those two parks? We’ll be able to walk/scoot to DHS which seems to be the park you really want to be at early.

DH uses a scooter and a few times we used the buses. MK by bus is an advantage over the car since it drops you in front of MK; the car goes in the TTC lot and you’d still need to Ferry or Monorail over to the front of MK.

AK is probably fine either way.

We’ve tried buses and it evens out. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Sometimes you pull up to a line already waiting but thereare no other ECVs so the driver boards you first, even tho there may be people on that line who arrived before you but won’t fit and will need to wait for the next bus. Other times you may pull up to a short line but there are already ECVs in front of you. Buses can handle only 1 or 2 depending on their setup. More people arrive after you and can fit on the bus. But you need to wait for the next bus with an available ECV slot.

Have you been to the parks since the covid restrictions? I used buses in Oct 2019 and there was no problem. Like you said, I might have had to wait for another bus but the wait wasn't long. I've heard that the wait is a lot longer now for people with mobility devices since with the social distancing protocols on the bus.

I guess I'm trying to weigh waiting for a MK bus and possibly needing to wait a LONG TIME and driving to the MK and needing to wait with the offsite guests to be allowed onto the ferry/monorail.

We went this Jan but rented a car. The last time we used buses the whole trip was March ‘19.

Yeah so I’m not really sure how that’s going now. But if more buses are coming, each has lower capacity but also designated room for an ECV, that could make the ratio between riders and ECV users better... do they still automatically hold a spot on each bus for ECV tho?

Hopefully some others have recent experience to share. I’d expect bus being better than car for MK for lower average overall hassle, lol. That’s likely to depend on what time coming/going too.
