I just wanted to comment that our bus transportation all last week was great. They always arrived within the promised 15-20 minutes. There was one time when we were trying to get from AK to AKL at 10am and it seemed like forever, but in fact I saw by timing it that it only took 20 minutes, including the ride to AKL. So it is true that it may SEEM much longer than it actually is.
We usually rent a car, but I can say that I did not miss driving one bit (I'm usually the driver) and would happily rely on the busses again!
