Burbank or Ontario Airport?

Our trip has been postponed-Again (Argh!) and I need to re-book everything for June. SNA doesn't have much availability for our days but Burbank and Ontario are pretty open. We're spending the first 2 nights at our old stomping grounds near Santa Monica but I don't want to deal with LAX if I don't have to. That was my home airport for 9 years and I've had enough of it lol.

Mostly wondering how rental car pick up is and if flights run on time at Burbank and Ontario. Or was there something you did/didn't like especially about either of them?

Thanks!

I've never done rental car pick up but I do like Burbank because it is so easy to get in and out. However, they tend not to have a lot of flights so if anything happens with your flight there are higher chances that you get bumped to the next day.

ONT is a shuttle to rental car pickup. BUR rental car pick up is in the parking garage across from the terminal so is a bit simpler/faster in my experience. Both of these are for major rental agencies. Off airport discount rental agencies at BUR and ONT are a different story, of course.

If you are going to Santa Monica first I would probably go with BUR. ONT is slightly closer to DLR than BUR and doesn't require trekking across LA but getting to Santa Monica from ONT after arrival could be a slog.

Don't forget to check LGB as well.

Thanks so much, everyone! I'll try for Burbank if the flights are the right time for us. We're going to Universal so maybe I could get a hotel close to that park for our first night.

Just eb aware they descent into Burbank is ROUGHHHH. They have to drop quickly so my last flight someone terrified of flying was hyperventilating over it.

I'm nervous too sometimes but yeah it can be a shock to those not used to it just fyi.

isnt SNA like this too?

Its the departure out of SNA that is somewhat unusual. I'd say at least 60% of the time I've flown out of SNA the pilot has warned the passengers about it before takeoff, fortunately. Due to a shortish runway and noise abatement rules around SNA they take off at full throttle a steeper angle and adjust this position and throttle sooner than most other airports. This results in both the pitch of the plane and the engine sound changing what seems to be "too soon" and sometimes freaks passengers out that an engine has failed or something.

Personally, I've never noticed anything unusual about landing (or taking off) from Burbank but maybe I've just been lucky.
