Where's the best price. I've seen ones on walmart.com for like 180 with free site to store and I imagine that will be best.
I am (rather unexpectedly) gaining guardianship of my oldest DD's 13 yr old friend and it's all come down kind of fast (since Monday) so I haven't had the opportunity to do my normal hours and hours of research for anything over 20 bucks LOL
My SIL (xsil actually) has two twin beds we could trade DD's queen for but I don't think there will be enough room in her bedroom after adding another dresser too. I will be more than happen to take her mattresses though!
Thanks for any help. Hoping someone knows about some TOTALLY FABULOUS deal out there.

We bought our bunk beds at Wal Mart last year. The set we got is $259, but it is much nicer than I expected! Looks almost like a Pottery Barn set, the only thing that shows its price is that the screw heads don't have a cover so you see the metal.

What made me choose this set over a cheaper one was that I wanted to be able to use regular mattresses, not the thin bunk bed mattresses, I didn't want to have to buy bunkie boards- I wanted the slats to be built into the bed and I wanted the two beds to be far enough apart so that the peron on the bottom could sit up to read.

It was this one -

I would check Craigslist too, for the bed itself. You might find a nice quaility used bunk bed for a better price.

Another vote for Craigslist. We got awesome, like new, solid wood Broyhill bunkbeds for $130!

Don't forget to check Craigslist or even ebay (use advanced search and specify a distance from your zip code where you're willing to pick up). Maybe even freecycle has something. We gave away a day bed with a trundle on freecycle so you never know and I found one of my girls' beautiful solid wood bedroom sets on ebay this way.

Our bunk beds were from BJ's, but the selection varies from store to store and is different from what they offer online.

If you are lucky enough to live near more than one BJs, take the trip to check out what each store has in stock. Ours are a classic oak style, made of real wood, not pressed wood/veneer and they're very sturdy. They were designed to be used as bunk beds or taken apart to create two twin beds with a few changes. Plus, they break down easily (like an Ikea product) for moving or storage. We've moved them to new rooms/houses four times now and they still look great.

The mattresses are sold separately, so factor that into your cost. Our mattresses came from either Ikea or Costco.

PS - If you know someone who's downsizing, ask them if they have bunk beds. I have a friend whose aunt & uncle were happy to give her their grown sons' bunk beds because they were trying to clear out. If you really are in a rush, buy an air mattress and use that temporarily - it should be able to slide under the existing bed for floorspace when not in use.

Are you anywhere near an American Furniture Warehouse? We got ours there, about $180 for the set, but no mattresses. They come apart, so we currently have them in separate bedrooms, but were great stacked. No bunkie board needed so we could use a regular mattress, and they still look great several years and a few moves later.

No Ikea or American Warehouse. Best price on CL in the last month was 300 it seems. Never thought of ebay but I'll check! Freecycle was a no go too :-( We're getting the mattresses free which is awesome. They're regular ones though so thanks, mom2gkc, that will be my choice if nothing cheaper pans out. I never thought of the mattresses being different mattering!

I would say either Craigslist or Amazon. I bought my girls bunk bed off Amazon and I was really happy with it. It was by far the cheapest we found and had free shipping. The quality was really good and we were very happy with it. It shipped pretty quickly too, I want to say we had it in about 1-2 weeks. I don't know if that is quick enough for you though.

I do see them on Craigslist all the time too. While I wouldn't feel comfortable buying mattresses from a stranger, I would have no problem buying the bed and giving it a good cleaning. I even see them in the free section occassionaly.

I hope you find what you need!

Another vote for Craigslist here, and do post a "wanted" ad. Something to note, since I notice you're out here in New England where many of us have older homes with shorter ceilings...measure the ceiling height and note the height of the bunk beds you're looking at. I know there were a couple when we were looking for DS's that would have been too close to the ceiling for him to be able to sit up in the top bunk.

Also, just a thought...since you have the mattresses lined up, you could have the girls sleep on the mattresses on the floor for a short time while you do some shopping and searching.

Howdy neighbor! We got my DD's bunk bed at the Mill Store. They very nicely separate into two twins if you prefer. The bottom one is high enough off the ground that I can fit a few of the roll away containers for toy storage. Good luck!

There's an Ikea in Stoughton, Mass, which isn't too too far from the Cape. Ikea also has great loft beds, which you could fit another bed underneath.

I also bought a set of bunk beds from BJ's many years ago and they were very nice quality
