Bulk candy

DS13's Bar Mitzvah is next month and I need to make my party favors. Keeping expenses low! I plan on buying jars at the dollar store and etching a Jewish star with "DS's Bar Mitzvah - August 15, 2009" and want to fill the jar with candy. The party is nothing fancy - a BBQ at home. He chose a Disney Cruise instead of the party - what a good son!

Where can I buy bulk candy to fill the jars? I'll either be doing about 12 of them if only for the kids attending his party of about 30 of them if I do one for each kid and one for each couple attending.

Hard to believe - I've had 13 yrs to plan for this event and only now am I getting to work.

If you don't have a candy supplier in your area, then I'd say either Costco or BJ's or Sam's Clubs.

I am doing a candy buffet for DD's b-day and all I could think of was getting the candy at BJ's Wholesale Club.

I just posted a thread about doing a candy bar myself Today I looked at Sams and there was a lot of good stuff for pretty good prices. I looked at Hersheys kisses , little candy bars and of course hard candy . What are you guys thinking of using?
Nice on the jars : ) I was going to just get those little take out buckets made of paper for cheap online

I will be near BJs tomorrow morning - I guess I will stop in there. I'll leave my wallet somewhere else - I can never get out of that store without spending $$$$. I need to price out paper supplies for the party anyway.

Does anyone know if Sams has a nicer supply/prices? I can always get in there with my aunt.

I would try either a party supply store, like Party City? Especially since they have a wide range of pinatas. I know Ive seen candy in there before.

Either that or Oriental Trading Company. They are great for all kinds of bulk stuff, reasonably priced too.

I need special colors for our candy buffet coming up and I tried a few online places but the shipping is more than the candy because of the summer heat. I'm glad that I picked up some at Easter (pastel colors) for the shower.....or I'd go broke just on candy.

I also did a big jar of double bubble pink bubble gum balls that I was able to purcase on Ebay for $16.95 for 5 lbs with free shipping - the gum balls were the biggest hit as young, old, love it even though the flavor only lasts for 10 seconds
