We are going to see cousins that we only see on Christmas Eve and give gifts to these two girls ages 4 and 14. My DD-13 just got a Build-a-bear free offer from her email and I've seen her sleep with her bear. Would you give the 14yo cousin a gift card to BAB so she can go with her 4yo sister who is also getting a gift card there?

It depends on the child. My dd14 would never want to go to the mall with her sisters, but they're older, and have lost their cuteness factor (for her).

My almost 12 year old would not be caught dead in BABW. My 7 year old loves it and drags us in every time we go to the mall and we usually see teenagers making bears.
So I'll agree with PP and say it depends on the child. Maybe check with the mom or another relative who knows them well.

HTH

OP here, I guess you're right, it depends on the child. I don't feel real comfortable with calling the mom because the dad is going through health issue right now. I guess I could go with my second choice to give a pretty necklace or lastly cash. Thanks for your help

If she was 10 or 17, I would say yes, but at 14, she is probably trying to shake off being a kid. When I was about that age, my uncle gave me a Mickey Mouse wallet for Christmas. I thought that he thought I was a baby. I held onto it and grew up enough to love it a few years later.

totally depends on the child, I was actually suprised when my 12 yr old asked for one for Christmas

It really depends on the kid. After a afew years off of asking for a BABW gift cert for Christmas every year, my DD16 (on the 29th, anyway) has said she's going to take birthday money and go to BABW.

(So now I'm thinking about giving her a gift card for Christmas, although I'm "supposed" to be done shopping.)

But she's young at heart, like her mother. ;)

Dd14 LOVES cash! It's her favorite gift! :lovestruc

DD14 would absolutely go to Build A Bear! So would DD11. I guess it just shows different strokes for different folks but I would give my girls a BaB gift certificate, if I still needed to get them anything. lol

Yup, it DEFINITELY depends on the kids. I'm 22 and I LOVE the Build a Bear store! I have a Duffy bear that I dress up, and I would love to make myself my own bear too.

If you give the little one a BAB gift card, maybe a gift card for the same amount to some other store in the same mall?? I guess that might be that between age for BAB but many teens around here are very into it.

This is what I would do. I would say most of the kids that I know at that age, would not "want" a BAB GC.

I agree it depends on the kid. I have an almost 14yo dd that is very mature in most areas. Most people think her at least 16, but she would be running to the store if she got a gift card. And no I am not allowed to give away the 30 or 40 (or dare I say maybe 50 if I bothered to count anymore) BAB she already owns nor the over 10 American girl dolls. The dolls she doesn't play with anymore, but I occasionally find a stuffed animal in her bed.:yay:

I just thought of something. Do you know what mall they would go to for BAB? If so my mall has a gift card that can be used in any store in the mall. That way if she decided she wanted BAB she could get one or maybe some clothes or even Claires.

Unfortunately, I don't know what mall they live near, good idea though.

I love it how some of our teenagers act all "grownup" and then we find them snuggling with a bear :rotfl2:

It totally depends upon the child.

Just tonight, my DD16 told me that she and her best friend want to "Build a dino" at the T-Rex Cafe in DTD when we go to WDW this June for their high school graduation trip.
